toxo Posted September 29, 2021 Report Posted September 29, 2021 I have some nice black stuff. Don't remember where it came from, must've got it in a batch cos I sure wouldn't have bought it on it's own. It's obviously chrome tanned but the smell is really obnoxious. Never come across it before but it really attacks the senses. It's very much a chemical smell and I can't work with it. Do I bin it or put it in the washing machine? Quote

The washing machine might be too severe. Why not clean it with something like Lexol Leather Cleaner? If that doesn't do it, maybe try Fiebing's Liquid Glycerine Saddle Soap. Quote
Contributing Member fredk Posted September 29, 2021 Contributing Member Report Posted September 29, 2021 Neither. I'd try sponge washing it with a strong lemon juice/water or onion juice/water solution first Quote
CFM tsunkasapa Posted September 29, 2021 CFM Report Posted September 29, 2021 I run chrome tanned deer through the washer all the time. Barely warm water, mild SOAP(not detergent) and tumble dry with no heat. Never had an issue. Quote

Put it back in on its own at 40. Will let you know. Quote
toxo Posted October 10, 2021 Author Report Posted October 10, 2021 After 40 degrees the smell has almost gone and although it's still an unusual smell it's sort of sweeter??? Quote
