Recommended Posts

Want to make a purse liner for a bag. What is a good durable liner to use?

If i decide to go leather what is a good leather and thickness for the liner?

Thank you in advance

Don't overthink it. There's no mystery here. I normally go with thin pigskin which is as cheap as chips but thin leather or anything thats handy. If you want it to support an internal pocket of course it needs to be a bit thicker.

Depending on the intended use of your purse/tote, the fabric can be anything from regular garment lining to pocket lining to denim. Whatever floats your boat.

The thinner the better because the lining will add weight, and heavier purses are not what women prefer, especially as they get older.

Lately I have been using bonded leather which is an interesting product. It comes in assorted thicknesses, as thin as 0.4 mm. I use it as a backing, primarily to add firmness to soft leathers. Plus it can be painted, so if you want to add color to the inside of a purse, this might be a good option.
