Treesner Report post Posted January 31, 2022 Anyone used one of these hole punching presses? its got a drill press chuck on it so you can put different cutters in it that you already have. I think I would use it for strap end cutting, oblong slots and pressing logos in. I was planning to get a one ton arbor press but found this in the search which seems a little more useful with the chuck https://amzn.to/3IMwIi0 https://amzn.to/32RggxW
bruce johnson Report post Posted January 31, 2022 I got one in a recent set. Not sure how the leverage factor is so I don't know how big a logo you could press in. It would not press a 3/16 machinist number punch into delrin, and realistically it doesn't take make of a hammer hit for that. It punched round holes OK and that is what I sold it for. Strap end and slot punches you'd have to turn down the shanks on most to fit the chuck. I think you crank on it too much and the vertical tube the head rides in looks to be the weak design link in my eyes.

Treesner Report post Posted February 2, 2022 I was originally thinking of trying to convert my hiker press that can take 3/8" post accessories so I would have to find slot cutters/strap cutters to fit in 3/8 or have someone turn mine down then just making a wide bottoms plate that goes in 3/8 or 13/16 lower hole that would give much more leverage for stamping and cutting but not as nice as the drill press chuck for random jobs and not as much vertical space the craftool and same looking but more expensive tandypro is similar, has a nicer adjustable bed for when stamping and they make a few hole cutters I'm not sure what size their attachments are, it looks like some are 3/8 but others look really big like this adjustable tube punch https://tandyleather.com/products/press-die-for-hand-press-round-tube-punches
Dwight Report post Posted February 2, 2022 If you want to press something . . . get the one ton arbor press from harbor freight for 65 bucks. It'll do your pressing . . . And if you want to get fancy with it . . . a decent mechanic can hook a hydraulic cylinder to the shaft . . . and then you can go to serious town with stamping and cutting. May God bless, Dwight
dikman Report post Posted February 2, 2022 I have one of those Dremel stands and while it's fine for using a Dremel (drilling/cutting/grinding) it wouldn't have any strength to use as a press that exerts downward pressure for stamping/cutting.
