Singer Industrial Sewing Machine Screws

Recommended Posts

As a member of this Forum and a long time sewer and sewing machine person, I was wondering if anyone out there has a list or book on the old Singer screws. I have later edtitions of the Singer screw books as well as the spec book on all the SS singer screws, nuts and rollers. I even have book containing the early Singer screws starting with Screw #1. What I am looking for is the book or books that have the specs on the screws, i.e. the pitch and diameter of a particular screw. Singer's numbers from #1-1500 were for screws, #1501-1800 was for nuts and #1801-2000 was for the rollers. Some selected screws which are still made are available in different sewing machine parts catalogues. Singer in Tennessee cannot even help me with this problem even though i knew they had these reference books available some 15 years ago when I needed the specs on a few screws. I got to believe someone has a copy of the early Singer screw specs book somewhere and i am very interested in getting a copy if at all possible.

If you find this information, can you share? I'd give my eye teeth for a comprehensive catalogue of Singer screw specifications.

Cheers.

Been 9 years, any luck with that? I'm going to need some screws for Singer machine and not sure where to look. I don't even have parts catalog for this model 168w101

I have tap/die kit's, is there any info on threads being used? Are those metric or SAE?

Extremely unlikely that they would be metric or SAE (or any other "standard" thread). Singer tended to use their own thread sizes.

Very interesting. I didn't even think it's possible but I guess it makes total sense. Any sources for hardware by PN? Also, is there any sources for part catalogs with part numbers?

Jimi ,

I have  certain ones from Singer.  I am looking for the one that begins with screw #1.  That screw was produced I believe beginning in about 1855 and then on we go.  Later screw books started with #1 but continued up to screw #20000.  I have the later books just not the early ones.

Now I'm interested.  I guess you have to find what model machine would take a #1 screw, right?  I've never seen screws with single digit part numbers, only double, but again, that why we're looking I guess?

Yetibelle,

I have that one copied but no specs on the screws!  Just pics and numbers. Singer published a large book on the early screws with specs because they sent me a 2 page fax copy of Screws #122 and #129 in about 1997.  It came from Singer at their parts company which was down in Tennessee at the time.  I know the book existed but never been able to get a copy.  I would kill to have the book to run copy's from.  It covered screws, nuts, rollers, taps and other items as well as life sizes sketches of each screw, nut, etc.  Diameters and screw pitches on each screw.

Greg,
I wish you could help me find this book.  I have  looked for over 20 years with little or no luck.  Did you know that when the plant in Kilbowie, Scotland was closed in early 1985, all machinery was sold at a 3 day auction.  I saw a copy of the original auction  flyer at the library in Clydebank, Scotland in 2006 when I was on vacation there.  They sold over 800 screw making machines, some over 100 years old.  A lot of them were Brown & Sharpe.  They made a lot of screws there, let me tell you.  Graham Forsythe at the ISMAC has never seen the book either.

I wish our readers and members would help in this search.  I am all out of options.   You can produce screws if you have the specs.  Saves time  without having to back engineer the specs on the screw.

Here is, by far, the most comprehensive list if Singer screws with part numbers, images, thread pitch and dia.

Glenn,

That list was about as good or better than I ever really needed, what information missing is it that you're looking for?

The whole list in general.  I have different machines over the years where I could have used the early list.  It contained screws, nuts, roller, tapered pins, taps, etc.  Anyone with a copy of this book would be golden  on older machines.  Plus having the book would be great if a screw is no longer made where you might be able to find another manufacturer say Juki who makes a screw like that.  Unbelievable reference guide.

still looking for the book with little results.  Thanks everyone especially Greg.  We keep looking.  By the way, the 29-4 uses screw #7 in it I believe.
