I am sure this topic has already come up but I was unable to find mention of it. I was figuring up my leather needs for the winter today and was checking prices when I discover the supplier I generally use has closed. For a short time I was scrambling to find kangaroo since I only need a couple hides currently and to not want to order from Packer, but I am needing some good latigo as well and have yet to find what I think will be good for braiding. Does anybody out there use latigo much and where are you getting it. I will be mostly building whips and some reins with it and need some thinner stuff. Thanks for looking.

Will the maker of this bag please share with us how the knot (circled in red) was made? I've tried, but have been unsuccessful at recreating it. thanks Joel

A number of years ago someone was building a bench lace tool something like a Hansen, but built out of aluminum. It did not have a name on it, used a utility blade on the cutter and come a little rough. They were inexpensive but did a really good job cutting, beveling and splitting strings. I had one but someone got off with it and I would sure like to find another one. Does anyone know who built it? I got the one I used to have about 12 or 13 years ago from Hadlock Fox but no none there knows anything about it now. Thanks Ken

I'm sure it's been gone over before, but just wondering if anyone uses just tape for button foundations and how well they stay put? Also would like to know what a good knot would be at the end of a bosalita, besides the ring knot with the ends run back thru. Any advice or opinions or photos would be great, thanks.

I have been learning to do mystery braids, and started using them for safety straps on my holsters. They look pretty sharp. However, I can't seen to cut them too well, and am wasting a lot of leather trying to cut the strips straight. Any advice that doesn't require spending a lot on a new tool?

After wanting one for several years I finally broke down and got one. I'm able to strip to width and bevel OK, but I can't split at all. I know several of yall have this tool and was wondering if you may have had this problem. I'm sure it is something I am doing wrong, I hear to many great comments about it. I'll pass on some things I'm thinking and if yall would please chime in. 1st, does the Splitter blade need to be super sharp? Also I read where some people split with the leather wet(or is that just rawhide?). Another thing I was thinking about was the angle of the bevel on the blade, seems steep to me(but I'm no expert and I'm sure the late Mr Hansen would h…

Been lurking for quite some time and finally joined. I have been watching videos and collecting reference material and have made some progress with my braiding, but am having trouble with my knotting. I have always been more of a visual learner, and would like to find someone local to take some classes with. I have tried the Tandy leather and my local one does not offer a braiding/knotting class. If there is anyone in the Saint Louis, MO area that would be willing, please let me know. Or, if anyone could put me in touch with someone local it would be appreciated. Also, thanks to everyone who contributes to this forum for all the wonderful information!

A complete newbie here, but a question. I see there are different ways or sequences to braid six, eight strands etc., but is there any other way to braid four strands other than the one over, under, etc> LIke I said, maybe a stupid question, but would like to know.

Couldn't find this mentioned elsewhere, so thought I would share this Youtube tutorial by Shane Hutchinson (from Abraided Leather) on making your own lace/thong beveller. I knocked up one quickly with things I already had in the garage (block of wood, wooden paint stirrer, utility knife blade). I found it easy to use, accurate and pleasingly fast. Have attached photos of mine below, used on 3mm Kangaroo lace. NB: Due to the depth of my block of wood rather than clamping the blade I just hammered it into the wood. This does halve the life of the blade (as the hammered side is dulled so you can't turn it over) but worth it for me as I found clamping twisted…
