Hi everyone, I’m new here and just getting started with a small project I’ve been working on for some time: hand-cast solid brass buckles and hardware. I run a small foundry and workshop near Nairobi, Kenya, where I make each buckle in small batches using traditional sand casting. Right now I’m at the stage of introducing these pieces and learning what makers actually look for in their hardware. Strength and authenticity are my focus, but I’d love to hear what you value most — sizing, finish, style, or price point. Here’s a look at what I’ve made so far: https://origibelts.com/collections/wholesale Any thoughts or feedback would be really appreciated…

Hey Everyone! I wasn’t sure where to post this question, but I thought if there are any suppliers reading this, maybe you can chime in as well… I bought some really nice and expensive vegetable tanned leather ($300 each hide) from a highly reputable tannery here in the US. (I don’t want to call them out on here.) My question is, I ordered 3 hides from them in 8-9 oz. I was disappointed as most of the leather was 7.5oz (I can live with it but it’s not what I expected) and one of them had ALOT of bumpy lines in it….over half the hide. I complained and sent them the attached pic and video of the bumpy leather but they said that it’s still considered top q…

Hello, Over the past several years I’ve used these forums to do research on industrial sewing machine accessories and binding attachments in an effort to outfit my various machines. One thing that I’ve noticed is that right now one supplier that often gets mentioned is KHsew. Like many of you I’ve actually ended up buying things from them and while they do have an abundance of componentry, I’ve found that logistically speaking working with them is a little more complicated because they are based in Asia. That said, I was looking at a cylinder arm plate I bought from them about a year ago and I realized that what I was looking at was e…

I'm looking for someone to make a custom roller wheel for a belt. I had a guy that was about to do it then went on vacation and never came back. I'm looking for a custom wheel that is placed in a roller machine, with the design imprinted into the leather. Not too sure where to start looking for this. Any help is appreciated.

I started with a super el-cheapo pear shader that I've actually gone back to using, for now. It is quite rounded over or convex-topped and easy to use, for me, for making nice, contoured dish shapes. When I received my B.K. Pear shaders, I was surprised to find they seemed scarcely more rounded over than a thumprint (which I expect to not be very rounded over on top). I love Barry King products and have nothing to criticize, here... in fact, I also noticed another premium brand or so pears that were fairly flat-topped like this, as well, when browsing pictures online. Must be an expert thing. (see pic attached) As a returning novice (with experien…
