Hi all! Anyone here have experience with / or have tested both the Weaver Master Tools Leather Slicker and the Cobra MP Burnisher? I've read a few posts about making a similar machine with a double grinder, but between the Weaver and Cobra-- which would you prefer?

I stumbled across a skiving machine in storage, but have no clue if this will even work...! The motor is 3 phase - so this will have to be replaced with a single phase motor. The "arm" is missing - would this render the machine useless or can it work without the arm? I have never operated a machine like this....so I don't want to lose fingers trying to find out if it will work!! Where are the experts??

reposting in correct topic. Sorry!!! Hello, I have been lurking here for a long time and love reading the posts. =) I have just been bad about posting anything =( I am looking to sell my Consew 229 Post Machine and I cannot find any reference for pricing. It is in great condition. It is part of my father's estate. I live near Spokane WA. Any ideas where I can get an idea of pricing? Thanks, Jessie

I've tried both a Ryobi and a WEN bench grinder to try and make a motorized burnisher. They are both cheap 6" grinders with 1/2 arbors. I also bought a pro edge burnisher that is supposed to fit motors with a 1/2" arbor, but the hole doesn't extend deep enough into the dowel. See picture for why it's not fitting. The screw is tightening on the thread and thus the burnisher is not sitting perfectly straight on the arbor. Turn it on and it's not pretty. This is my first experience with modifying power tools and three trips to the hardware store later, I can now see why people shell out big $$ for the ready-to-go edge finishers. I've seen plenty of threads about t…

Hand Operated "EZ Edge" Strap Edger. Slightly used and in Great Shape. This comes with 2 sets of Blades size 0 (up to 8oz leather) and size 2 (10-14oz. Leather). These blades are still very sharp. I did not edge very many belts or straps with this machine. This machine edges all four edges at the same time. Brand new through Weaver Leather, this machine sells for $1300 and the extra set of blades sell for $185. All this and free shipping for $1000 The Weaver Leather Link- http://www.weaverleathersupply.com/Catalog/ItemContent.aspx?ItemNumber=9036

Hello leathercrafters! I am considering investing in skiver from Global, with name "sk 111". It is almost impossible for me to find any detailed information or someones review. Based on this video and leaflet, do you think it is machine worth buying? It is cheap, something over 1000 Euros, but I can't afford to invest much, since I already bought sewing machine. I need to skive soft chrome tanned leathers for bags, 1-2mm thick. Thank you very much for any opinion. Leaflet from Global: http://www.globalsew.com/data/upload/files/sk100leaf.pdf Video of the machine:

So I took the leap and bought a clicker press, and now I am weighing my options as to how to hook it up. From what I can tell I have three options rotary converter, static converter, and VFD. I am leaning toward the VFD because it will be the only piece of machinery requiring a phase converter in the foresee able future. I thought I would pose the question here and see what you all do.

Good day, I was given this small skiver when people around me found out I wanted to start working with leather. It is an American St Louis model B. I sharpened the blade and reinstalled it, tried to feed a piece of 7 once leather but in order for the wheel to pull the leather, It leaves marks on the lesther. I found some illustrations and pics of that machine but nothing on adjustments and how to run pieces of leather without ruining them. If any one can point me in the right direction I would appreciate. It does however makes for a lovely weight to keep a door open. yves

Aside from the skiver and the press, I'm not sure what I'm looking at here, but I have a chance to purchase all of it for under $200. Can anyone shed some light on these things?
