Check out this article from chron.com about a new natural gas plant in Huckaby, Texas that turns cow manure and discarded cooking oil from restaurants into useful energy in the form of natural gas. Pretty amazing... Who knows? Might just give PITA something else to focus on besides the leather industry, eh? Kate

SPOKANE, Washington (Reuters) - A cow plunged from a 200-foot (61-metre) cliff onto the hood of a minivan on a highway in central Washington state, according to police. The car's occupants, Charles and Linda Everson, were not hurt in Sunday's accident, but the cow was euthanized at the scene. "If the cow had fallen a split second later, the animal would have landed right in their laps," said Jeff Middleton, criminal deputy of the Chelan County Sheriff's Department. Middleton estimated the animal weighed 600 lbs (272 kilograms), or the average size of a mature cow. It had been missing for two days and wandered 5 miles (8 km) from home near the popular Lake Chelan touris…

Last January, if I took a US cheque into our Canadian bank, I would get $1.10 Canadian per US dollar. Today I would get 92 1/2 cents. That is a 17 1/2% drop in about 10 months. (You guys got to talk to your government...) How has this been affecting you Americans? Or the other countries in the world that deal with the US?

Even though my home is in no way threatened (for now), the smoke and ash from the fires is all over the place. For a couple of days, it was almost "fog-like" and when the sun came up it was red. Really scary. My brother/sister-in-law live in Poway, they had to evacuate for one night (Rancho Bernardo fire is close to them). They got back home, turned power/gas back on. Called me, I almost didn't recognize his voice, so much stuff in the air. His house was fine but absolutely filthy. Better dirty than gone, ya know? I have a friend in Fallbrook, been out of his house since Tuesday. Still not back in and he doesn't know what he'll find. Friend in Ramona was out for…

I think I've gone a little far. Doin too much with leather. Last year I did some carvings and put them on some posts in the yard. Now I've got to do some more. Easy to do and 'different'. I used tea light candles, like in a pumpkin. Just remember if you do anything like this you will have an open flame and heat. Not a good combination in some hands. I haven't had any problems. Keep on Smilin Jim

Hi all, I just have to share a unique experience for horsepeople. As far as I know it is the only place where you can ride to an island. The island Neuwerk belongs to Hamburg but is about 100 km away from Hamburg. At the coast is Sahlenburg a small town. There is the riding stable who makes guided tours to Neuwerk on horseback or with a carriage. They have about 30 trained Fjord ponies. It takes about five hours to get there ( about 10 miles one way)and come back, because this is only possible when the tide goes out. About half of the time we need to gallop. It is hard if you do just slow trail rides. IT WAS GREAT FUN. Here we were about on half way. As you can se…

How Many Horses Does It Take To Change A Light Bulb? Thoroughbred: Who ME?? Do WHAT? I'm scared of light bulbs! I'm outta here! Arabian: I changed it an hour ago. C'mon you guys - catch up! Quarter Horse: Put all the bulbs in a pen and tell me which one you want. Standardbred: Oh for Pete's Sake, give me the darn bulb and let's be done with it. Shetland: Give it to me.
