I recently bought a very rare antique circassian saddle, don't know how old it is, my guess, it's from mid 19th century. My knowledge about antique leather saddles amount to nothing. The saddle is in bad condition, desperately needs cleaning and restoration. I am looking for someone who can clean and restore the saddle or some advise how and where to get help. I live in Rhode Island - US. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We purchased 2 saddles today under the impression that they were origional billy cooks, however, after closer inspection at home I saw no billy cook makers mark. Both saddles are stamped J-N Saddle Shop Miami, Okla. with the numbers J-N 867-82 and J-N 869-82 on them. Can anyone tell me about these saddles? They seem to be well built saddles. Can put pics up later if needed. Thank you.

I have a saddle with lacing between the 2 skirts under the rear jockey. I can remove the jockey easy enough, but I can not figure out how they laced the skirts together. If the lacing wasn't bad I wouldn't worry about it, but it is in bad shape. Thanks

Hi All, I have just bought a pre-loved Joey Jemison cutting saddle and I would ike some help cleaning/restoring it. It was originally a rough out saddle and looking under the flaps was a tan colour. The top side is BLACK with grease and arena dirt. I don't think it has ever been cleaned. I thought about a pressure cleaneer it is that bad. Can someone give me some ideas on getting this saddle back to a more normal appearance. The only upside is that with the amount of leather dressing the leather is in pretty good nick just putrid. Help please. Johanne

Hi, I just signed up today, and I can't believe that it's taken me so long to find such a neat web site. I have a real weakness for saddles. I just purchased an older Longhorn saddle. It's in great shape other that the sheepskin. I purchased some saddle shearling from Tandys, but I'm not sure where to go from here. Any and all help would be appreciated.

I think I remember someone a while back posted about where they get stainless nails. I am looking for some smooth, not ring shanked. My supply is low, and I don't remember where I got them. I generally do business with Panhandle Leather, Siegels and Weavers, and none of these folks have them. Any suggestions appreciated. JW

This is a saddle that came through the Cowboy Antique Roadshow today. It is an unmarked saddle, but we have some suspicions who made it. We have some pics going out to some collectors who might have an idea too. I thought the border was kind of an interesting use of the Carlos border tool. It was stamped adjoining to make the dot in the center of the impressions.

Ok, i do use burgundy latigo, i love the siegel santa Ynez one, but when i repair old, even antique saddles, i'd like to match these old brown latigos and strings, sometime it look ugly with new burgundy strings... Were can i buy quality brown latigo, it look to me to be alun, yellow center. Weaver do carry an indian tan but the weigth is too thin for latigo cinch, probably right for strings...they sell ot for making lace. It say to be not color fast, is that bad for horse skin? I can understand you dot want this if you have a grey horse. And about alun, pure chrome and veg-retanned, what do you preffer? why? What thickness do you use for the latigo cinch (mounting sid…
