My apologies if this has already been asked but I could not find it. Does anyone have any info on how to do a rope rolled cantle binding? I have searched everywhere I can think of and can’t find anything. Any advice or input would be appreciated!

This is my first floral effort on a saddle. Does anyone have tips for transferring the pattern to the swells? What mistakes will sneak up on me before I know it? Thanks, Randy

I’ve made four saddles – one with flat-plate rigging and the others dropped-ring rigging. I want to make a light-weight trail saddle with in-skirt rigging this winter. It seems pretty straight forward to make an in-skirt rigging with rear jockeys covering the back of the rigging, as Stohlman or posts from Keith Seidel and others on this forum show. However, I am puzzled about how the integrated rear skirt + rigging is secured to the tree without jockeys. I have not seen this discussed. From what I can see in photos there would be screws under the seat jockey, the seat ear, the rear concho, and under the skirt into the cantle, but that seems to be pretty light compared…

I am restoring a saddle where the seat leather does NOT come all the way forward past the forks to cover the front of the bars, the drop down in a curve from the cantle to the inside of the forks and there is a small front "corner" jockey for lack of a better term which returns back under this drop in the seat leather and the skirts are pocketed over the bar ends. I have only found pictures of few saddles like this and they all seem to be made but Easy Fit. Is this just their style, little trade mark, or is it to save leather costs and ease construction time? In Stolman's volume 1 on the page introducing fenders there is a sketch like it on the top right as he talks …

Without trying to open a can of worms with this question I tried the search option first but could find what I was looking for. In Mr Adams book the way I read it (I could have read it wrong) he says to cover metal horns with a cap and wrap style instead of the traditional wing style covering. I wasn’t sure if this was given as another option or the best way to do it. What are the benefits of the cap and wrap on metal horns? To me it doesn’t seem as durable and seems like it would be more prone to twisting especially on a roping saddle. I have read some threads saying that a traditional wade saddle has a wood horn with a donut cap and wrap and I understand keeping up with…

Hello Folks, Been a year or two since I've been around here. I am looking for some assistance with balance. I have a bunch to learn yet about construction. There are more pieces on this saddle that I did a few times and still didn't get them right, but got them close enough to live with. So here is my questions. Making a saddle that is built well and fits the horse and rider seems fairly straight forward. How do you make one line up to the eye to be appealing. I know what I like but is there has to be some rules of thumb to live by when cutting in the exterior lines that will make the front, back, top and bottom tie together well? With the pictured saddle we …
