There's a leather company up here in Montana that does custom belts. I can't remember the name of the top of my head. They have 3 piece belt, and what this does is allows them to produce the two ends (buckle and billet) at standard lengths, then the custom part is sewn on and sets across the back. They also refer to these as 3 piece. Dunno if there's a right or wrong answer, because any belt with 3 pieces essentially falls into this category.

I use 4B-6B for marking or drawing patterns directly onto the face. It marks well without too much effort and can be erased easily enough.

The problem I've run into when using silver or white pen for marking any side of the leather is drawing the ink through while cutting. Then not realizing it's on the cutting surface, and it marks up the face. I've started using soft charcoal or graphite pencils to mark natural, and white color pencil for dark leather. That way they can be easily cleaned off the surface if my knife draws it through the leather

I made a shoulder holster because of demand. Too many calls to be ignored. It took me a month of design, failure, adjustments, all mostly cardboard so no real loss. Then I made 3 different prototypes of the shoulder harness and picked what felt most comfortable after some wearing and that became my staying point for others. I've been wearing my shoulder holster as my EDC for almost 3 years now. You'll like a shoulder holster for your drives over a hip holster. You may even look into making a chest rig. They tend to hold the gun to the body a bit tighter and don't impede any arm movement

It's not easy to recreate a movie prop like that. You did an amazing job.

Agree 100%. Things change and so does taste. It's kinda like tattoos. Some are works that stand the test of time, and others are in the "what was I thinking!?" category

Very interesting take on the coozie. I've never thought about putting a liner like that in one. Awesome work and great idea. I just finished a couple coozies about a week ago. A father and son that are into elk hunting.

Check out snapping turtle leather company. You'll get way better price than ebay. I found it on ebay for $175 and the snapping turtle leather co was I think $65 with shipping. I'd have to look at the invoice, but it's better than half the price as buying from someone on ebay

It's been well over a year since I made this holster for a customer that wanted something unique and flashy at the same time. It's definitely up the in the top 3 favorite holsters I've made. Any critiques are helpful.

Thanks everyone. It was exciting to get to work with such a unique looking leather. I can definitely see a belt being inlaid with a couple tail sections. It might be a future project for myself

I don't currently have a website, and my business is primarily word of mouth, repeat customers and a lot of tourists up here in NW Montana. I named my business Double K Custom Leathercraft because my first initial, and my dog Kalamity which makes the second K. Anyway, I just found this site the other day when I was looking at some snapping turtle holsters so I decided to join because I think I can learn a lot from y'all. I was recently turned onto snapping turtle leather by a great customer of mine. I didn't know it existed and I'm quite happy working with it. It's not easy, but not the most difficult leather I've worked with. I wanted to share the holster I made for his dad's 75th birthday.
