  1. Hey Dennis. I removed the leather from my stropping block and I am now using a piece of posterboard. This seems to take the Fabulustre better and I think I am getting my knife polished better. I was losing my patience with the leather.
  2. Thanks Dennis. I am glad you could help me, I just cannot get my stropping block to take the compound like it should. I really hope this helps.
  3. Do I use honing oil? Should I soak it heavily or lightly? Also will this help the leather accept the fabulustre? Because it doesnt seem to apply to my block much better than jewelers rouge.
  4. Is this what a stropping block is supposed to look like after fabulustre is put on it? I bought some to replace my jewelers rouge and it goes on almost as hard. Is it supposed to rub off real hard or should it rub onto the leather easy? Thanks
  5. I am not an expert, but that looks top notch to me! Great job!
  6. WOW!! I do believe that Mr. Bob Parks has forgotton more about leatherwork than most of us will ever learn in a lifetime.
  7. The Barry King blades that I purchased are round. I have a sharpening jig from Tandy but the hole the blade goes into is too small for the King blades, so I will be purchasing one from Chuck Smith. I appreciate the help guys, I did not want to try to sharpen the blades without a jig and end up messing up the edge.
  8. Thanks for the info Tim, is this blade jig still available? And Thank you Mike I will definately check into purchasing some Fabulustre, I appreciate the help.
  9. My boys uncles always get them loud obnoxious toys like drums and talking toys. LOL
  10. I say new but Ive actually had it for about a month and I have been practing about everyday, and I do strop. It just seemed not to be cutting as good. Maybe I am not stropping good enough. My jewelers rouge flakes up when I rub it on my block.
  11. I searched for a post on sharpening swivel knife blades but could not find one. I just bought a new Barry King swivel knife and it needs to be sharpened, but I do not know how to do it and I do not want to mess it up. Can someone please guide me through sharpening my new blades. Thank You!
  12. Thats awesome! My sons would love his fort. The older one is always building a fort out of anything he can find, and the younger one is always wrecking it! Gotta love em, they really are alot of entertainment.
  13. Thank You! My older son is 8 and he likes to practice stamping on practice pieces of leather. He actually made his own key fob. Myles loves to sit in my lap and touch all of my tools, sometimes when I dont want him to, but its worth it to see him smile.
  14. Hey everybody, how are you? My name is Dustin and I am from Maine. I am just learning to do some leathercrafting as a hobby. Check out my 17 month old son named Myles, he is a future leatherworker.
  15. Thats a huge help to me Regis, I was baring down way too hard before and I think that must be the reason I couldnt keep a sharp edge. I even bought a Barry King knife, but it still dulled up fast. Thanks a bunch.
  16. So if I use some 6-7 oz veg tan leather that I have, should I put the grain side up?
  17. Thanks Eric, I saw a tutorial online and she had it flesh side up also. I wast just making sure.
  18. When making a stropping block do you cement the leather on grain side or flesh side up?
  19. Thanks for all of the help Deb. I am going to order some Crown tools, because they seem to be having a going out of sale{on Crown Tools} price. Very Cheap.
  20. Thanks for all of the input I am going to start ordering some of these tools to replace my craftools.
  21. Thanks Deb, thats exactly what I wanted to know. I have all Craftools, but I am looking to upgrade although I cant afford to buy all Barry King or Robert Beard tools. This is just what I am looking for a tool that is better than entry level but still affordable. Have you ever used Crown tools that come from siegel?
  22. I was just surfing the web and I found a site named sdtradingco.com, and they had a line of tools called Procrafters. Has anybody ever used this line of tools, and if so are they any good?
