I'm not familiar with that machine, but I would think that there is some kind of relief valve involved somewhere. Perhaps it can be adjusted or replaced with something else. You could also just put some kind of stops at each corner so that it just cant go any farther than you need.

I was the equalavant to a DI in the Navy, my ONLY job in evenings (while everyone else cleaned barraks) was to polish my boots. I once got my a** chewed out for helping with the cleaning. It's been over 35 years since I did it, but I seem to remember water, rubbing alcohol and boot polish. Also very risky(if you burned the boot you were in big dudu) hold boot over a lighter flame to melt the mess. I don't remember what cloth I used, but it was probably something supplied by the chief. Believe it or not his boots were not creased from walking and had the shine of patent leather. He also wore custom made uniforms. I was very impressed by the custom made camel hair great coat. I learned a great deal from that man.

somewhereinusa replied to HARVEY's topic in All About Us and Off Topic
It's what I do for a living, Company info at Choice Carrier Truck at top of that page is mine. I'll be in CA in about 8 days. Dick -
I'm far from an expert, but I would think that the cylinder would have to be pretty large to get the job done with air.

How Do You Photograph Belts And Guitar Straps?
somewhereinusa replied to UKRay's topic in Leather Photography
I think your question is how to photograph something long and still show detail. This is how I handled the last one, but it relys on photoshop proficiency or some other photo program. This was actually taken laying on a blanket that I changed to a different background. If I remember correctly the lighting for this was just all of the lights I could turn on in the living room. I've also been playing with placing item on a turntable, taking a number of shots and making that into an animated gif. -
Does anyone know where I can get these? I found some in Europe, but not in US.

Some time ago there was a thread about long cutting surfaces. I've searched everything I can think of and am not having any luck. Can someone direct me to that thread or discuss what you are using for a long cutting surface. 6 to 8 feet? Thanks, Dick

Does anyone have one of these for Toro? Do you like it and is it hard to use?Do you remove presser feet? I'm assuming you have to hand feed?

I grew up in the auto business, then Navy, came back and opened up an import car business that grew into a complete auto machine shop. Got an offer to work in a auto restoration shop I couldn't turn down and sold my shop. That was a rich guy's hobby that closed after 3 years. Trained stockdogs for 10 years, mostly Border Collies. Now I drive cross country trucking I also have an event photo business specializing in stockdogs. Just getting started in leather.

When you're done with the sharp end you need to dress the top too. Put a nice bevel around the top. Those mushroomends can break off and put an eye out.

I hate trackballs, and I've tried a bunch of them, my big problem is when I'm doing heavy photo editing. Left click finger at times gets almost unusable. The best thing I've found is to plug in two mice. I use right hand for movement only and left hand for clicks. I use an older mouse with the ball removed for the left one.

I,too would like some kind of visual. I've read that a number of times, but can't quite seem to "see" what you said. Dick

I've been struggling with this, since I had eye surgery I can't see if something is straight. (long story) I can tell if it's misaligned after the fact, but not while I am doing it. I have been thinking of making some kind of jig, but that's an outdoor project and it's cold out there. Today I think I have found the answer quite simply. The jig can come later. Since the base of the letter isn't the same distance from the edge on all letters you have to align the letters themselves. I used a thin piece of plastic (cut from some packaging material) make sure you have a straight edge. I clamped a yardstick to the bench, then taped the plastic to it. Slip the leather piece under the plastic and align the LETTER to the edge of the plastic. I also got my design stamps in a straight line without having to scribe a line. This is the first time I EVER got the letters in a straight line.

This is early, but I have an opportunity to go on a mule packing trip into the mountains next summer. It's basically a photo expedition for me. The way I get around to doing things I had better get started now. Does anyone have any suggestion on making some sort of holster to carry a large DSLR with a long lens on a saddle? Protection somewhat important, ease of use very important. Most of my gear will be in some sort of bag or hard case, but I want to have the camera with me. I would also like some suggestions on case for other gear. I know that many of you ride, so thought this would be the best place to get ideas. Thanks in advance, Dick

This is the best price I've been able to find. Gets the price down to about $.50. http://www.morrco.co...annamplat3.html I found some on e-bay, but I didn't like the quality of the stamping. Machine here. http://www.engravermachines.com/html/pet_tag_stamping_machine_0.html

I have an order for an 8ft leash, I made one out of latigo and I just don't think it's nice enough. Is there some way I can smooth the edges and rough side? I could use thinner leather and sew them together, but that's not quite what I had in mind. Also I'm afraid it will bleed all over his hand when he sweats. Is there something else I could use? Would bridal leather be a better choice. Any and all suggestions appreciated. Dick

Announcing the passing of my old A80
somewhereinusa replied to hidepounder's topic in Leather Photography
Bob, I have a lot of very expensive DSLR equipment that I use in my photo business, but I very seldom use any of it for product photos. I currently use a Canon SX110 IS for product photos. I had an A640 that I liked better, but it got stolen. If all of your photos are used on the web you don't even really want much more than 5-6 MP you have to cut them down to be usable anyway. I try to get web photos down under 50K. I very seldom shoot RAW, just to much processing time for what I do. I often have about 5 minutes from download to computer to finished print. I don't know about other brands, but most upper end Canon P&S cameras have the ability to shoot tethered to a computer through the USB port for remote shutter release. Proper lighting is probably more important than the camera, you have a good start with the light box, but the fluorescent lights aren't good. DPreview has a lot of good info on cameras. I bought my SX110 reconditioned on E-bay for a very good price. If you want I'll try to find the seller. FWIW I have always thought your pictures were excellent. -
Tell us about the place you live
somewhereinusa replied to UKRay's topic in All About Us and Off Topic
Home is where my wife is. She is in NE Indiana 4 miles from a stop sign that when two people show up at the same time, that's a traffic jam. I live in a truck, cross country driver. I only get home four to six days a month(not all at once) I have lived in three corners of the US. Key West,FL, Imperial Beach,CA and Bremerton,WA If you want to see pics out the "office" window they can be seen here. Traveling with Kate and Molly Ray they aren't hunting dogs, but I trained these for a living for 10 years, but in your part of the world I'm sure they are quite common. Another web site with lots of dog pictures. -
Other than doing a print screen and then turning it into a jpg, is there any way to save photos from the new site?

Walnut Husks
somewhereinusa replied to rickeyfro's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
They grow like weeds at my place, how many do you think you would need? It wouldn't take very many to start adding up in weight. They are a PITA to get the husks off of. I'm also not sure about shipping the things, they might be considered hazardous. I won't be home for a couple of weeks. But by then they should be falling. I just did a search and found this site that says you can buy powdered or dried hulls. http://basketmakers....s/walnutdye.htm I just found this site when I did a search to see if they were shippable. Probably your best bet since they are already hulled. http://www.black-walnut-hulls-for-sale.com/
