  1. I am Canadian so the laws is not the same, but anyways, when you talk ''copyright'' and ''trademark'' your talking about money The amont of money your ready to spend in court defending it. As long as the person does'nt make profit with the copy (for personnal use) I am not even certain their will be a case. Now, I don't have the talent of most of the artist here and I would be very sad if some of you stop posting the inspiration the new guys need to improved.
  2. If I get it right, vegan leather is some kind of plastic (lots of toxic, non-biodegradable chemical) that is procces so that veggan (who are so very affraid of hurting mother nature) can do upholstery on the seat of their hummer ?
  3. do ''brewer's pitch'' is known by a other name? maybe it will sound ridiculous but what is this "brewer's pitch"?
  4. I am not a very experiance leather worker, I started a couple years back with probably the same kind of material. Depending on your goals, taste, the type of leather (and size of the pieces) you got many option: basic bag, bracelet, cellphone pouches ...

    first mask

no I use it for "foam" weapon. I use a padded fencing mask for wood and/or metal weapon.
  6. I can't honestly tell you how much your work is actually worth, but as a customer (I am so far from being a professionnal...) I can tell you the rule I use when bying leather stuff: under 10 $, If I like and I know it will take me more then 15 min to make I buy under 20, If I really like and might use, I try to negociate ( but not seriusly)and buy over 20 $: How much will it cost me to get the material (so tandys cost +5$), how long will it take me to make a cheaper version (so about 5 to 10 time what a artist will need) at about 10$ a hours.
  7. Daggrim, I really like your helms (I did a little visite to your site...) but I think horns are for driking...
  8. like many I wear glass and really (I mean really) hate wearing contacts lens. But wearing glass in full armor is a mood breaker. this is why I made my first mask (black and white). It is 8 oz leather. It is mold to fit the sport goggles. the second one is also 8 oz, but this time I had better control he hole for the eyes is a little to bib, I need peripherial vision in a battle field.
  9. free pattern ? could you please link the site .
  10. there is always the option of the "trowing scabbards". the belt is loose on the shoulder and you swing the sword to removed the scabbard. The only problem is damaging it.

  12. before they use steel plate japanese used ''cuir laqué'' a combinaison of small plate of leather with silk ruban to hold them. they use some kind of coating to hardend it (10 or more coat of varnish?) Did anyone try a similar technique recently? if yes what kind of varnish, waxed or coating was used?

    introduction

since it is the normal (or at least polite) ways to start posting on a forum, Hello, I am a beginer in the field of leatherworking. My main language is french so please forgive any gramatical error. I am a "jack-of-all-trade" of medieval culture. I do a little bit of blacksmithing, sewing, woodworking, etc I am not a artist, my work is fonctionnal. Until recently, punching hole with a ice pick (or event a electric drill) and hammering rivet was for me the normal ways to work leather. I joint this forum to learn new (and more correct) technique, get new idea and information
