  1. Thanks Ray, Im glad you like them. I hope others like them too!
  2. I wet formed the leather over a mold that I made from a kind of plaster called Herculite 2. There is a tutorial that explains the principles of wet forming. See: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=19782 In short, you soak the leather in hot water, and stretch it over the mold, work the leather over the surface with a modelling tool while you dry the detail with a hair dryer or heat gun (set to low), Start in the centre and work out. As you stretch the leather tack it around the edge of the mold on some wood. The tutorial should get you started. PM me if you have any specific questions.
  3. That's a very nice looking seat. Do you make card templates to cut the panels first? What thickness leather do you use? I really like you black and red dying, I still cant get that same vibrant effect. Did you change the shape of the foam or is it original? I bet the owner is very happy with that! I recovered my bike seat after inserting a gel pack but I just used red upholstery leather. Ive not tried making a tooled leather seat yet.

Thanks Luke. I cant seem to find Pine Pitch in the UK, I used brewers pitch which it bitumen based. I use a mixture of the pitch and bees wax.

This began as a molding that went wrong so I had a little fun with the scrapped piece.

  10. I really like that. Superb work!
  11. Hail Altimann! Welcome to the forum. What kind of leatherwork are you into? Have you made much motorcycle leather? Im currently trying to make a single piece wet formed tank cover to protect my bikes paintjob.
  12. Is this the kind of effect that can be obtained with an airbrush? So that the dye fades from dark at the edge to light near the middle?
  13. Welcome Dave, This forum is a great resource and is full of friendly folk willing to help.
  14. Excellent work again Tom! If you ever run courses on how you colour and finish your bracers let me know, I'll fly over!
  15. I'll send you an email, thanks Gary.
  16. Thanks for that, I'll start looking into it.
  17. Hi, Did you find an Aerostitch machine? Do you know what a sensible price is for one of these if sold second hand? Ive just been looking at a video of one in use on you tube and it looks like an awesome machine. I like the Boss, but as you say, it may be akward to operate it with one hand on the lever. Cheers Paul
  18. Very nice! What dye and finish did you use? Very neat stitching.
  19. Very nice work. I like the wet forming, its so neat. I'm trying to wet form a whole tank cover for my fuel tank, but I'm concerned I may get wrinkles or folds, so will stick to some very thin leather, maybe 2-3 oz.
  20. Great looking knives, are the blades replaceable? When you make them again I'd consider ordering one or two. Can you PM me the aprox price you are asking? Thanks.
  21. Thats some amazing work! I love the bright colours.
  22. Welcome to the forum. Im considering trying a Buell, Lightning Long. Ive always like those. Thats a nice bit of tooling, even more-so condinering you havnt been doing it for long.
  23. Thats absolutely amazing, one of my top two bands:)
  24. Thanks Tom, I will give it a try on some scraps.
