  1. Hi All, This is my latest tankard that I made for a friend who is a big Wicker Man fan. For those who dont know, its the classic 70s film with Christpher Lee and Edward Woodward about a pagan community on a remote Scottish island. I was trying to get a branded or burnt in effect in keeping with the burning of the wicker man. It was dyed yellow but soaked in a bath of molten bees wax. I'll be lining it with pitch later. Its made from 3-4mm thick leather.
  2. Very cool, did you design the picture?
  3. Thats a lovely case, I look forward to making one like this. How long did it take to make?
  4. Welcome Andrew! Where about in Manchester are you? I use to live in Bury, then Radcliffe. I still go to Radcliffe to visit my mum and friends. This is an excellent resource for all things leather. Have you got any pictures of what you've made?
  5. Very Nice Did you come up with the picture on the front cover? What tool did you use to background the rear cover, I cant quite make it out?
  6. After punching the slots, does anyone dye them or leave them showing the undyed leather?
  7. This thread had been very useful to me too, thanks for taking the time to explain the finishing process and hits with the tooling Chancey77.. Miloradovich, Iook forward to seeing more of your work:)
  8. Looks good so far, I too look forward to seeing more of it as you progress.
  9. Thanks Kevin, I can see how that can be, but didnt know if it would be a problem or not. I'll get on with dying the guitar strap and leave the punching till last and see how it turns out.
  10. When punching holes for the anchor points or slots on the strap, do you punch them out before or after the strap has been dyed? Im concerned of getting darker areas of dye around the slots if I do it after punching. Thank you.
  11. Thanks for the advice, I've been having problems with this tool too!
  12. Brillinat tooling there, Im just starting to practice some horse carvings, but they are not as good as yours!
  13. I keep my smaller cut-offs flat and covered and the larger ones rolled but upright because I dont have room to keep them flat. However I need to cover one o the larger rolls to keep it out of the light.
  14. Thanks, Ill sort through my hardware and see what Ive got. I got a load of rivits, fasterners and these tools given to me so I didnt know what I actually had.
  15. Thats brilliant work, the colours are so vibrant!
  16. A friend has tried the acrylic dyes. He says that they are very good. I have not seen the results but isn't this actually a paint and not really a dye - if its acrylic?
  17. Please can someone tell me what kind fasterners and size these tools are for? The one 2nd from the right has a deep concave surface. Thank you.
  18. It looks amazing! Is that basket weave the same as the "Top Plait"? Just a different name for it?
  19. This is an amazing belt, the attention to detail is superb!
  20. I know how you feel, I just got my 18 oz maul from Beary (Ed's son) and its absolutely beautiful. I have yet to use it but first I'll take some pictures. It feels great and well balanced.
  21. Thank you very much David, that makes sense. I'll be giving it a try soon.
  22. When you say you put tape on the bottom of the seat pan, please can you explain how this helps? Is the foam cut to the edge of the pan, or does it go past the edge? Im not sure how much the leather should be larger than the seat outline. Im working on my first seat and Im having difficulty making the pattern. I hope someone can help. Thank you!
  23. Very nice work! Did you dye the leather after wet forming and stitching? Also when wet forming, did you only wet the sides of the seat leather, or did you wet all of it? Thanks!
