What Is The Way To Store Leather Hides And Leftover Leather?
OdinUK replied to dms1's topic in How Do I Do That?
I keep my smaller cut-offs flat and covered and the larger ones rolled but upright because I dont have room to keep them flat. However I need to cover one o the larger rolls to keep it out of the light. -
Thanks, Ill sort through my hardware and see what Ive got. I got a load of rivits, fasterners and these tools given to me so I didnt know what I actually had.

Acrylic Dye - For Leather
OdinUK replied to DStar's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
A friend has tried the acrylic dyes. He says that they are very good. I have not seen the results but isn't this actually a paint and not really a dye - if its acrylic? -
Please can someone tell me what kind fasterners and size these tools are for? The one 2nd from the right has a deep concave surface. Thank you.

It looks amazing! Is that basket weave the same as the "Top Plait"? Just a different name for it?

I know how you feel, I just got my 18 oz maul from Beary (Ed's son) and its absolutely beautiful. I have yet to use it but first I'll take some pictures. It feels great and well balanced.

Thank you very much David, that makes sense. I'll be giving it a try soon.

When you say you put tape on the bottom of the seat pan, please can you explain how this helps? Is the foam cut to the edge of the pan, or does it go past the edge? Im not sure how much the leather should be larger than the seat outline. Im working on my first seat and Im having difficulty making the pattern. I hope someone can help. Thank you!
-
Very nice work! Did you dye the leather after wet forming and stitching? Also when wet forming, did you only wet the sides of the seat leather, or did you wet all of it? Thanks!

An update to this, I tried doing the same with a thin neoprene lining, its about 1.5 - 2 mm thick. Im quite pleased with the results and will post pictures when I return home after the holidays.

Pretty good for a 2nd go. I need more practice that this kind of tooling. When using the letter stamps, in order to keep the letters aligned I keep the last letter stamp in place and use that as a guide for the next one. If you are stamping a double letter, you can substitute the last stamp with another letter and use that as a reference. I hope that makes sense. Its what I do and it works for me.

Very nice work, I like the detailed colour on the border pattern. Are the colours acrylics?

Very nice work!

What Spinner said I like the idea of having a pocket on the tank bib. Welcome to the forum Shadowryder.

Those are nicely made journal covers. How did you get the multi-tone dye effect, was it airbrushed?
-
Thats brilliant, Thanks for the description Watty, I'll find that useful when making my first tooled seat.
-
Watty, That looks like a very nice seat. Id like to see some close-ups if its not too much trouble. Do you have any pictures of how the leather is attached to the seat base? I would like to do something similar to my bike seat but I dont know how to go about attaching the leather unless using pop rivits. Thanks.

I really like it. How many hours did it take to make?

Hi Ray, Thanks for your offer, I'll be away for a few days but will be in touch later in the week or next week. Thanks
-
Oh, Thanks for the link.

Can anyone advise which is better for tooling, a maul or a mallet and why? Also, is there any advantage of rawhide over nylon/plastic heads? Its about time to upgrade my mallet but I'm not sure what to go for. Thank you.

Fantastic looking belts. How did you line them, and what with? I really like them!
