  1. Very neat work. I like the effect on the first cuff pictures. How did you get that effect? The horse hair used in leather projects is a great idea for those with horses, to use the hair of your own horse. I have yet to try sewing through sheepskin/fur onto leather. Must be hard to see whats going on?
  2. Thanks All. I just used Fiebings Oil dyes for the black and red, no acrylics on this one. To get the dapth, I cut quite deep, bevel, background and then the important step is to gently re-bevel around the letters to make them stand out more.
  3. Thanks:) Its a free font called Gutteral. If you search for it you may find it or I could send it to you if you like it. I printed it out onto film to use as a pattern. I forgot to say, It's a fixed length strap, the ends are loosely based on a tamplate I found on here somewhere but I cant remember who posted it (sorry). I made the taper a little longer and used a slightly different radius for the ends.

  5. Thats great, I hope I can get some of my stuff in art galleries sometime.
  6. Here is my 2nd guitar strap (first tooled one) for the London based band Stuka Squadron. The letters are GD Cox (for Gravedigger Cox). Hope he likes it! Still trying to get the hang of taking photos of straps.
  7. Welcome Konnie! Do you have any good suppliers close to you? I love coming to Germany, This year I will have been over 3 times. I look forward to seeing your leatherwork:) Paul
  8. I wasn't too happy about the speckled effect that happened when I applied the Saddle Lac.
  9. Thanks for the tip Mike. I'll try it on a scrap. I'll also take the nozzle and soak in in some solvent, then blow it out with compressed air.
  10. I have used Saddle Lac on my patches many times before with no problem. This time, where I have Fiebings red oil dye on the lettering, there seems to have developed a speckled effect after spraying on the Saddle Lac. Could this be that the spray may not have been as fine is it should be? By that I mean, maybe its coming out in a coarser spray? I can see any reason why this should happen since Ive done the same before with the same dyes and even the same can. I will post a picture in a couple of days. I hope someone can help. Thank you.
  11. Fantastic work. Do you design the patterns yourself?
  12. Nicely finished straps. How did you apply the dye, did you airbrush it on? Its very uniform.
  13. Thanks for all the advice everyone. I probably wont attempt paints on seats but I have have some fabric/leather paint that needs heating to set, Ill be using that for other projects.
  14. When I tried TanKote, it wasn't water resistant at all, in fact I havent used it since. Do you want a satin, matt or gloss finish?
  15. Please can someone advise how to heatset on leather without damaging the leather. I was considering using a hot air gun but but Ive not tried it yet. I have some acrylic paint for textiles and leather and for textiles I hear that folk use an iron to heatset the paint. Thanks.
