  1. looking to find larger spots..in nickle plate that have more then 2 prongs...I am using them on bracelets and with 2 prongs I think it will look funny with the spot sticking out each side..does anyone know a supplier who has larger spots with more then 2 tabs? hope someone can help...PS I dont have a tax ID!

  2. Russell in live chat suggested heating the tabs to take out some of the temper...It worked ty Russell for the help...if anyone runs into this problem just heat it slightly i had to watch so I didnt make the spot change to blue its nickle plated....let them cool and the bent without breaking! I will post a pic of the bracelet.

I bought some hardware awhile back had some nice 3/4'' spots in the lot...I tried to set them and the tabs break off as I am trying to bend them down...i tried pliers to bend them and also tapping them over...tapping them worked a bit better but trying to get the tabs to lay flat on the back without sticking up they broke...seems the metal is a bit to stiff not malleable enough..i have small tandy spots I dont have trouble with...can anyone help or should i scrap the 20 spots! lol they have 3 prongs on these spots by the way!

  4. I had a bit of trouble setting tandy rivets when I started out ....the main problem for me was the lower cap anvil ...one its really made for setting snaps I feel...and is used to set rivets but to me its not optimal way of doing it...I had 2 hand setters....so i had a washer welded around one....and slip in in a printle hole in my bench anvil...it gives me a solid base to start...and also can see your hammering straight on the rivet also.... I use small taps with a mallet and can feel the rivet setting...when it tightens up to where i want it...I leave it I may look at it once or twice as its tightening up...I have not had any trouble with them pulling out....some others here have...I have pulled with all i have before and cant get them apart if set right. this is my experience will post a pic of my setup also.

  5. I had a small strip of 5-7 oz Latigo..I wanted to make some lace about the same width as the thickness to try some braiding making key fobs...Anyway I have a Stript Ease I set it to the thickness i wanted...Issue i had was keeping the leather against the side of the fence..the strip I was cutting was irregular width so was odd to keep it tight...seems like the fence is too long on the Stript Ease not quite like using a Draw gauge with the handle offset...I had fair results if i pushed the leather trough about a inch at a time...If i tried to hold the lace and the leather after it was cut and pull it would run out...I was wondering if an Australian strander would be a better choice...Hope someone has ideas lol

  6. I bought a small anvil off ebay one that had a printle hole in it...the anvil I have is 7 pounds...i was using a snap and rivet anvil on my anvil for the bottom and a rivet tool for the top...well i didn't like how some of the rivets came out...also I didn't like the impression I was getting from the lower button anvil. I had a spare setting tool for the top...so i welded a washer to it and slip it in the printle hole in my anvil and use that for the bottom anvil...so in essence i am using two top tools to set the rivets...now I dont have any bent rivets or impressions on my work.

  7. I am thinking about making a few of them. I made up prints for a machine. Here is a partial rending of the press. Have not calculated a cost as of yet.

Let me know if you come up with a price...also one question doesnt look like its ajustable as far as thickness of clickers I have seen...you may want to look into having the main post adjust to accomidate different thicknesses of dies.

  8. I am using a 7/8 inch strap of Latigo 5/7 ounce. I am cutting the ends down to 3/4 so I can use a 3/4 buckle...I tryed to use a belt end punch to make the (turn out) but because its only a 1/16th it doesnt do a very good job then when i go to burnish the edge it also messes the alignment up of both cuts so they dont align well...how can i get even cuts that look professional? Best I have found is cutting them with a mat knife and doing the best I can.
