It just takes a lot of messin with to find the right feel with rawhide. There is no easy answer. What I usually do with longer braids is start in the middle and braid one way leaving the other end in a ziploc bag until I start that direction. This helps keep the moisture consistant on both ends. If after your work dries you have gaps in your braid then your braiding to wet. Once you finish your braid get a piece of 1"x 4"x 16" hardwood and roll your work on a hard surface to smooth it up. Hope this helps.
I'll give it a shot. I would bet your hide is to wet. It should have about the same consistancy as firm latigo leather. Also make sure ya don't scrimp on
fresh razor blades for a good clean edge. Can also email or pm and I'll tell what I know even if it's not much. Bret.
Mike, I have both bosal books and i think they are very informative and a nice reference addition to a book collection. As far as you are along with braiding I think I would just buy the advance book on bosals.
Bret.
Use one a lot. I tried it and it doesn't work with roo only rawhide. That's a good cutter but you are limited to very thin rawhide (roo, horse, or goat). Made of cow horn they last longer but plastic works also.
