How to Make Rolled Leather Bag Handles (Free PDF Pattern)
It's the pattern I used on my first handle. I didn't use the side stitching route that everyone seems to take. I butted the edges together and used a baseball stitch. (Ignore the nasty stitching on the flaps on that handle, I hadn't done a saddle stitch in some years, and it got a bit wonky. Should've practiced again before I started.)
Then, I discovered the corset stitch, so I practiced some of that on the x-acto handles for my next rolled handle.
Thanks for the tip to the video! Also, very cool work on the Xacto knife stitch.

Thanks all. I had been thinking of making a handle like this for a project and you just solved a problem I didn't realize I had yet.

I think angled blades are helpful if you are doing small letters or other things with really tight curves. However in most floral carvings if I need to cut a tight curve I just lean my normal swivel knife back so I'm working it like an angled blade. You can get your standard swivel knife to do the same job with a little bit of practice even if it has a big 5/8 inch wide blade in it.

Nice work. I like the contrast of the lighter cross to the rest of the cover. It makes it really stand out well.

That thread color really compliments it well. Looks great!

Very impressive work!

Hi all,
I finally got some bottles of this (Saddle Tan and Medium Brown) to try. So far I've only tried it on a few stamped pieces as a test but it seems to work really well and it produces a nice rich color in the leather like I've been getting with Tandy Eco Flo products. It's thinner that the Eco Flo product so it was a little easier to work into crevices, but otherwise it seems to work just like Eco Flo. I need to try a little more testing with it, like trying it on a floral design, but so far I'm giving it a thumbs up.

Very nice and clean!

I use pre waxed polyester cord from Maine Thread. It's good quality and comes in many different colors and isn't very expensive. I think it's a good starting place for getting good at hand sewing.

I like your painting, especially the highlights you added to the rose petals. It gives them more depth.

Very nice! Love how the edges turned out on this.

I'd have to agree with Dwight. Those marks are probably from variations in the dye concentration on the sponge.
-
Hello. It's possible there was some sort of surface coating or contamination that caused that. Do you use anything to clean the leather surface before dyeing?

That feather looks great. It makes it a really nice wallet.

@garyplI've got a Leatherwrangler round knife as well and wouldn't need anything else. Terry makes great knives and I've thought about purchasing something from him in the past but my Leatherwrangles one is always going to be my go to tool. I sure hope Terry can recover though and get back to production. He makes excellent knives!

I think you did very well. The edges look great and the overall fit and finish looks very professional. I do see a couple of places the stitches look a little off but overall it looks very good.

That bag really looks nice! Was the temple laser engraved? I love the tri-weave border.

Great idea! Thanks for sharing @pete!

Nice work!

Thank you @mikesc for posting this. It's great information with a lot of detail, and thank you for the work you are doing making masks.

Thanks @eeroyale, that was the impression I got about it. I use Eco Flo now and I know how to get good results with it, but I would be interested in giving this new product a try. I think I'll need to order a bottle of it to try out.

I think it's really cool! I like how the bag shape incorporates the honeycomb design.
