  1. I recently won First Prize in the Master Division of the International Internet Leathercrafters' Guild "Tribute to the US Navy SEALs" competition. Included in the Prize were two Tandy Leather Factory Gift Cards - one to the value of $10.00 and one to the value of $25.00. The Gift Cards must be used in the United States. As they are no good to me I would like to donate them to someone who needs to purchase tools or books, etc. I know when I started nearly 50 years ago that every dollar helps. If you can give me a postal address I will send them to you ASAP. regards, TapTapTap Name: Barrie Bailey UserName: TapTapTap IP Address: 121.44.85.75 Email Address: popeye@ozstuff.com.au
  2. Welcome to the forum mate. If I can be of assistance just ask. Regards, TapTapTap

  3. Wholystang, Welcome to the best leatherwork site on the web. If there is anything I can help you with just ask. regards, TapTapTap

  4. Very nice result Vince. I am about half way through finishing my attempt at this pattern. When I first transferred the design I ended up with a 25" diameter circle. Too much leather so I reduced the size to 12" . Are you going to attach the wrist grips etc that go on the back. I am going to glue mine to timber and add the fittings, then find a spare piece of wall to hang it. Regards, TapTapTap
  5. Welcome to the forum from the NSW Central Coast. You have been given a good list of suppliers and I would recommend Birdsall's as I have been dealing with them for over 20 years. Ask to speak to Tracy to set up an account. Their online system has a quick turnover from placing order to shipping. I know Cabbage Tree passage quite well having spent many hours paddling a kayak in and around Port Stephens with the Navy diving section. You will find this forum will have an answer for all your questions. Good luck. regards, TapTapTap
  6. Rob, Thank you for your comments. The measurements and other information is listed in my website - www.myleatherwork.com. I am posting as much of my work as i can with instructions on how to make them yourself. Many years ago I made one of these bags with basket weave but unfortunately did not take any photographs. If you need any more information just give me a yell and i will help all I can. Don't underestimate your stamping talent. We had a motto in the Navy Diving Section - " The difficult we do immediately - the impossible takes a few minutes longer". Regards, TapTaptap
  7. Dave, perhaps you can help me. I joined this forum to learn how to photograph leatherwork but got side tracked. I bought myself a couple of books and am now learning how to design and carve the Sheridan style. I still have to learn how to photograph leatherwork.

    Regards, TapTaptap

  8. Congatulations Spinner, of course now you are going to hear "stop that tapping you'll wake the baby". Best wishes to you and your good lady. TapTapTasp
  9. Welcome to the forum chiefport. I noticed you visited my profile recently. Is there anything I can do to help you? My philosophy is the same. I am passing on my knowledge through my website - myleatherwork.com. regards, TapTapTap

  10. G'Day Mate, Welcome to the forum. I have used Birdsall's for over 20 years and their service is highly recommended. Ask to speak to Tracy. Another source worth trying is www.nswleather.com.au. I have a site bookmarked called www.aussiecrafts.com.au and in their section for leathercraft they list over half a dozen suppliers from around australia. Worth a try. regards, TapTapTap

  12. Hi Sonnie, welcome to the Forum. I noticed you visited my profile today - is there anything I can help you with? My gallery on this site also features items from my website - myleatherwork.com. Regards,

  13. Jesse, I might have what you are looking for in page 2 of my gallery. The front part of the Ipad case is moulded. You could quite easily add a section to the back and attach shoulder straps to make it into a shoulder bag/Ipad cover combination. Al Stohlman's book is an excellent resource. regards, TapTapTap
  14. Hello Diane, I noticed you visited my profile recently. If you have any questions on the work in my gallery please ask. That's what this forum is all about. regards, TapTapTap

  15. G'day Jock, welcome to the forum. Looking forward to seeing some images of your braiding. regards, TapTapTap from the NSW Central Coast
  16. Vince, the antique dyes we get here in Australia are not as thick as Fiebings paste so it is easier to get results like mine. I haven't used Fiebings for over 40 years so am not aware of what you could use to dilute it.I suggest you post your problem on the appropriate forum and take advice from members who actually use the product. Regards, TapTapTap

This is our first attempt at coloring leather instead of just applying antique dye.

This is 'our' first attempt at using colours instead of various shades of antique dye. I did the carving and my wife did the colouring. The technique she used was to antique the whole picture and then using a damp cloth wipe off all excess dye except for the border. She then used her acrylic folk art paints and in some areas spirit dyes to achieve the result. We realize we have a lot to learn so I have signed up to do the course with Paul Burnett. We would appreciate any comment. regards TapTapTap
  19. Thanks for your comments mate. She has been my partner for 49 years and I still listen to her comments. As a matter of fact she is working on a pattern for another bag at the moment. I will keep you posted. regards, taptaptap
  20. Hi there Vince, thanks for your comments. I have never used oil on any of my work. The majority is antique. I use a brush and wipe excess off with a lint free cloth.

This handbag was designed by my wife. The handle is made from 2.5mm leather and the rest from garment leather.

One of my earlier projects. This Tandy pattern was very popular some years ago.
