  1. Does anyone have a source for Type I prewound bobbins for a Singer 29K-60? Searching with no luck what so ever. The last ones that I had and really like are the ATCO I (CS-69). They were gifted to me but running out and need more! Thank YOU!!!
  2. Bib Pros: multiple chest pockets to configure things to be kept handy. Crotch is covered for warmth. Nothing tight on the waist or Spine. You dont even have to button them. Bib Cons: Getting the riding length is tricky. You pretty much have to break them in "high and tight" for riding. If you walk in them, dropped down a bit, than they are too short for riding when you straddle a seat in them. Thus your ankles get cold. Break in period they kind of feel like they are going to cut you in two That will go away. When on long rides and you want to reposition your riding seat, you pretty much have to stand on the pegs to do so. The leather against leather just never slides into place like denim and leather. This can become tiresome to you or hard on your back if you have a history of back troubles. I have made them out of horsehide fronts that is naturally waterproof for customers and they love them. The straps need to be out of a very pliable or glovey leather so that they still form to you when you are sitting down, because in that position there is a couple of inches of slack when sitting. The bibs on the website look beautiful, but I guaranteee no leather is comfortable damp and wet when riding long distance. You will still need raingear to be comfortable when riding any distance in the rain. I mention this only because the website kind of touts them all weather. Kind of depends on the rider. Best advice I can give you is not to cut them until youve marked them straddling your saddle. They are much trickier to get the length right than chaps. Hope this helped! If you still get the after all this said...Then I bet you will love them!
  3. Sweet! I like it. Definately better than plastic!
  4. Questions Starting these braids, I used sinew to tie the leather back and bring it back over itself. What is the name of the strongest knot to hold these. I did my best but I know there is a better knot out there. Would google it to learn how to tie it. UV protectant. What is your favorite/best? I am in love with a product called Voigt Leather protec made by some saddlemakers outside of Sandpoint Idaho but havent tested it for this purpose and time is tight. Feel free to offer suggestions to me. They are my first and I LOVED doing them! Kate
  5. I'm quite tickled with this! Nice job! Cant wait to see more!
  6. Come on people. They dont even treat their people humanely. I heard a rumor from a reliable source that most of our outsourcing of leathers which yesterday, by the way, was done in Pakistan, is going to change to China....This is going to be interesting. If youve ever done any alterations on leathers made in China, you will find that it is cut to the barest minimum and what you would expect to be a "seam allowance" is simpley rolled, glued and topstitched. Lord help you if you break a seal to change a zipper.....I'd love to know what glue they are using. To its credit...it doesnt just fall apart, like some shoddy stitching does. I have wondered if its gorilla glue?
  7. I repair saddle bags that loose their rivets all the time. These are set commercially. Sometimes setting another rivet works, but if its going to have alot of abuse, Chicago Screws are the way to go. Also You can grind down a long shaft to be the proper lenth to set. Works well for me. I use the ones from the Leather Factory (Tandy).
  8. What about Keroscene (sp) to clean up the old oil and then use a good sewing machine oil to lube it back up?
  9. Hi, I am looking for these to make a belt for a customer. The best price I have found is $3.99 per but I really need to get that down as he is a big boy and its gonna take dozens . The motorcycles can be no more than 1" tall. Thanks for any help! Kate
  10. WOW Doctor!!! Who cares about any "center", that patch is amazing! Im in awe of your talent. Wear it with pride! I have no experience with tooling dyes so I cant help you there, just couldnt stop myself from saying WOW.....
  11. Thanks so much! I'll try them both out
  12. When in doubt, I use a rule of thumb I read in an old book on lacing. Try making the hole for the eyelet the same distance from the edge of the leather, as the circumfrance of the eyelet. Hope it works! Kate C
  13. Maestro I see alot of Motorcycle Jackets in this condition. Often, the Jacket was black at one time but fades and wears out to a dark brown. I use a wonderful product called Doc Bailey's Leather Black. It cleans, conditions, waterproofs and blackens all in one. Im not normally a fan of all in one products, but this stuff is the bomb! It really seems to give the leather a new life. When used on a dark brown, it will darken but not "dye" it black. When used it on faded black (brown) it really looks good. They also have a leather clear for colored leathers but I dont think you can beat the "black". Hope this helps. Kate C
