  1. Beeswax and parrafin oil is a great sealer I use it to deter rodents in my tackroom. Just heat it enoughto mix thoroughly lt doesn`t take much heating.

  4. I`m real happy with my Seiko 8LD, was a little quick for me to start with but have the speed mastered now. Limited feet does mean some work is done on the Pfaf 335 17B H21 for tighgt corner design etc.
  5. Nice work Turbo, what machine are you using on the Chaps?
  6. Hey Luke, is that Donnie Gay grinning at me offa your wall?
  7. Happy New Year Al, have just caught up with your Cowboy posts , would like to come over and have a look sometime I`m flat out with Rodeos at the moment but will call sometime in Feb.
  8. KIa Ora Elton, can you let me know cost of your mauls and also the Basket Stamp as shown in recent post, thanks heaps Gary.

  9. Kia ora Elton, you`re a busy man, the tools look great, pm me a price for 1 of your mauls and the Basket Stamp above.. please. Regards Gary. ps If you need to a guinea pig tester down here just send em all down, might pay to wrap them in a pair of Chaps tied to a Saddle for ballast!!
  10. Hi Johanna, could you please provide access to this forum. Thankyou.
  11. Last night I was Arena Director and Chute Boss at the Hamilton International Rodeo in the Claudelands Arena in New Zealand, I recognised these Chaps on a young Saddle bronc rider and walked up to him and said`` Elton Joorisity made those Chaps ``, he replied that that was right and that Elton had also made his Bronc saddle. He then inquired as to how I knew this, and it was with some pride that I told him of the many hours I have spent on this site admiring and striving to emulate some of the skills exhibited here. Elton it was a priviledge to view and touch your beautiful workmanship, your attention to detail and the skill required to get such perfection and finish is unsurpassed and I salute your incredible ability. As you will know I am referring to the Chaps owned by Kerry La Valley.

Kia Ora Bob, nice looking rig did you also make the tree?
  13. Kia Ora Ronnie, how does this compare to a Pfaff model 335- H2 -17/01- BL and are parts for these readily available? Thankyou Gary.
  14. Kia Ora Darryl, how are you getting on with your Seiko 8BlD3, I have just got one today funnily enough I also paid the equivalent of $600 it has a clutch motor but I also got a servo to install on it, so that takes care of tomorrow. Would be keen to hear what and how you are running with it. I make Chaps and Handbags.
  15. Kia Ora Bob, thanks for that I found it on Google yesterday and it is a pretty comprehensive manual. It is so good for `machine ignorant` guys like me to be able to tap into the collective knowledge that is given so freely by the Members of this Community. This machine is quite a little doozy and will be quite handy, it bangs away thru about 9mm without any trouble at all, regards Gary.
  16. Sandy you are a genius, or as we say in my country ``that`s the bugger``, do you have any knowledge about this model? I have only just read these posts and will now attack Google. Thanks for the humour Guys, I was getting a little green around the gills. Good old Leatherworker.net delivers the goods again. Bravo.
  17. Kia Ora, I have just aquired a Singer 145 W1 it was previously used on a yacht in the Meditteranean and is a head only ,apparently it was powered by battery powered hand drill. The machine has a kinky setup for changing stitch length and also the reverse via a lever, the other thing I had not come across before is a dial on the front of the body which you turn to alter from a straight stitch to a variable zigzag stitch. It came with large bobbins and a very strong thin cotton thread I assume that it had been used on sails. I have it sewing by hand ( have yet to source a table and motor ) I can not get it to sew with #69 thread which is annoying. Has any one out there had expience with this machine , it is not the walking foot longarm model that is on the web. Any comments or info much appreciated. Sorry I don`t have the savvy to upload photo.
  18. Hi Al, thanks for that probably a bit technical for me, I see the Pfaff you are talking about, it is the same as one I checked out today it is relisted at $420, I tried it on some mockups but it lacked the grunt with 69 thread. Isn`t this sight an amazing access to some very clever and gifted Leather Smiths and information. We have to catch up sometime.
  19. Kia Ora, has any one used or have an opinion on a Seiko STW8B, I am looking to use it on Rodeo Chaps and Handbags, hope you are all well out there and stayin` safe.
  20. Sorry Al just saw your comment Jun 15,by all means anytime, give me a ring 094205394, I am having problems with the A1 was sewing fine and then just doesn`t want to know me, need your machine knowledge.

  21. Hi , if you still have any cured possum call me 094205394 Kaukapakapa. Thanks Gary.

  22. Hi, Gary here ,would be keen to catch up sometime for some #6 info,I live down near Kaukapakapa.

  23. I`ve always had a G Dixon & sons Head knife very old English steel and damn hard to work, but holds a razor edge very well. Then 2 years ago I literally stumbled upon a rusty old Round knife whilst helping clean a friends shed, I took it home and cleaned it up only to find it was made by T Dixon and sons also made in England, this knife is a cracker it now holds a great edge after a considerable amount of stonework ,as the cutting edge was quite pitted. I use this one for both stripping and cutting and refer to it as Tom, the G Dixon knife I call George and have never had a smoother skiver. I believe that the early Saddlers/ Bootmakers circa 1850- 1920 that came to New Zealand were probably all of English descent and consequently this explains these two. I do also have a stainless Tandy solely for cowboys who pop in to repair their own gear, after they are gone it is a case of stoning out the chipped blade and wiping up the bloodstains. Really enjoyed reading this Thread.
