  1. Thats great news! Thank you. I scoured the Fiebings website and they make no mention of the water resistance abilities of this product. Cheers!
  2. I was wondering if anyone has ever applied satin sheen over saddle lac. I needed a spray finish for a piece I was working on so I ised the saddle lac, but I'm not sure if it is water resistant like satin sheen. Thanks!
  3. I think it originally sold as part of a fixed blade/folder set. If you search "stag and burlwood Gerber knife" some links pop up. Guy was walking around with a cardboard box full of the fixed blade knives with nylon fabric sheaths for 10 bucks. Said he had 50 of them when he walked in, had maybe 9 left when I seen him. Was selling them for 10 bucks each. I should have bought more of them, it's not too shabby for a work blade.
  4. Holster looks cool. After 2 months of hand stitching 3 or 4 holsters a week I bought the Tippmann Boss. Once I got it running right I love the thing. It saves me enough time that I can sit at the computer once in a while again now. What used to take 2 hours or more now takes 20 minutes.
  5. I picked up a cheap, but sorta pretty, and very sharp, Gerber knife at the gunshow Saturday. I thought I'd try making a sheath for it. It came out pretty decent I suppose. Now I want to make more It is made from Hermann Oak 6/7 weight leather, Fiebings Cordovan dye thinned 1:1 with rubbing alcohol, and the black center panel is textured with one of the background tools I borrowed from my wife. Finish is my custom satin sheen/ super sheen/ water sealant on the cordovan dye, and full strength super sheen on the black. The knife fits really nice and has an audible "snap" when it pops in.
  6. Page 17 on this PDF file touches on it. http://leatherworker.net/SimmonsHolster.pdf I think the technique also applies to bigger circles, like belts. Worth a try if nothing else.
  7. As for the wrinkling on the inner layer, it might help if you "roll" the inner layer on. It will sort of pre curve the belt though.
  8. Nice! Is that holster stable. Seems like it might flop a bit, but looks really nice. The sheath is
  9. The topic tile is misleading. I was fully prepared to say "I'M A DUMMY, HOW CAN I HELP!?!?!?!?" But then I was like
  10. Did you use the roller guide attachment for the Boss? Looks good BTW.
  11. Thats pretty much what I do as well, except I use the T-nuts with the teeth, and I put in a small leather "washer" between the holster and the straps, to compensate for the thickness of the pants.
  12. I've taken to mixing 2 parts water/ 1 part satin sheen/ 1 part super sheen. Comes out with the right glossiness IMO.
  13. Looks great! Very nice on the braiding also.
  14. Im still a total newb, but doesnt waxing the belt before applying the sealant cause a condition where the sealant doesnt really "adhere" to the belt? Possible thats whats causing the cracking?
  15. So my wife has been doing some floral type tooling in some scrap pieces of leather, it's looking pretty good. Her (our) problem is when it comes time to antique it. Shes tried various methods and none have seemed to work right. Is there a tutorial somewhere on how to do this properly, keeing the recessed areas dark and the raised areas lighter? Thank you
  16. Springfield Leather has them for 1.50 or so per set. I have some on the way. I have horrible luck with the Tandy Leather Factory snaps, they just wont form right for me.
  17. On an already wet formed holster, I mix the gum trag 1:1 with water and apply with my fingers, then rub it in with my fingers as well. After it has dried, I use a dauber to apply satin sheen.
  18. Welcome aboard Shane! If youre already knee down, use the sole of your shoe ( heel area ) to slingshot the slide.
  19. You guys dont have to worry though, as it usually only happens to me! Thanks for your time spent on the job Lobo. Glad you're still around after all that!
  20. Training and practice will show you your best method for your own carry style. There is no single correct answer.
  21. I've been making and selling quite a few of those types of holsters for the LCP/ P3AT crowd, both IWB and OWB variants. Heck, I even had a guy request one for a full size Glock 10mm. With 1.25" belt slots at that! Something to consider. Your weak side hand might be out of the fight for a variety of reasons. In that case, a weak side spare mag is worthless too.
  22. I have a request for a "wing style" IWB holster for a Browning Hi Power. I was asked to use a "nice thin leather" for this build. Just wondering what the LW.net mindhive would recommend? 6-7? 7-8? Thanks!
  23. I was going to, but when I sketched it up, it just looked like a purse, so I tossed it in the trash. (the design, not the gun)
