  1. Thank you all for the compliments, much appreciated. Colt - When in IWB mode, the weapon and mag pouch would ride a little higher, not much though. This design was made with the intention of MOSTLY OWB use, and the ability to convert to IWB when necessary, i do not recommend this to my customers that want to do MOSTLY IWB and sometimes OWB. So for someone to have a little more high ride for a small period of time is not a huge deal. As far as the finish, i mix Super shene 50/50 with water, and put a couple coats on until i reach the desired gloss level. which i aim for a semi-gloss. You can also use a satin sheen, and then afterwards apply a light coating of Kiwi Natural shoe polish and it buffs out to a nice semi-gloss. Here is a pic of my recent work. Its a Sig tacops 1911 reinforced throat with the IWB/OWB conversion. The finish on it is a satin with the kiwi polish done. rgepting - thanks i try to share whenever i can and am always available for questions
  2. Kcinnick - The pattern is very easy to make. Here is a picture of one of mine for the LCP magazine, and the finished product (this one is horsehide) Pm me if you have any questions.
  3. Always nice stuff Josh, ive had the pleasure of seeing some of your work in person out here in Las Vegas, Paulie from Survive the encounter is a local here and he let me barrow a few blue guns in the begining of me making holsters, so in doing so we talked a bit about holsters and he showed me some of your work!
  4. That incident you refer to, the person was using a UNIVERSAL holster that glock makes to fit a ton of differnt gun so the fitment to beginwith is very slopy, on top of the the position of the belt being on the outside, making it an inside the BELT holster put extra tension on an already universal holster that traditionally started flat from the manufacturer, so everytime you take your gun in and out of the holster its opening and collapsing softening up the leather, turning it into a wet noodle, on top of that we do not know if this guy tried to "take care" of his holster but putting oil into it. Its a very bad example to use to make your point. that guy and that product is wrong in so many levels and in no way shape or form relates or compares to any custom molded holster. Its a POS product bottom line, and negligence by the operator.
  5. What i do is i put a SMALL amount of DAP contact cement on the threads, and screw it in... it gives it just enough bit to stop it from backing out, but at the same time its not strong enough to never be able to get it back out again. Have not had any bad feedback from customers on this subject yet. Im currently in Deltona visiting my parents, what part of central florida are you in?
  6. If you get a chance, post a pictre of them muzzle top muzzle with a ruler between the two muzzles. Also have you measured the same area on your cbob to see if the kimber is the ones thats off or the micro compact. Also with blue guns they are slightly smaller then the actual firearm anyways due to shrinkage that occurs with molding process. It should not account for 1/8inch since the shrinkage is usually only 2-4 percent overall. I made a HK USP Compact 40/9 holster for a customer, i molded it off the blue gun, the fit was perfect, was not overly snug and was not loose, it was just perfect. Well ofcourse when i meet with the customer to give him the holster i have him bring the gun with him to test fit it. Sure enough the thing was so friggin tight it had to be forced in. I felt so embarassed and i told him it was insane that it did not fit because the blue gun fit so perfect. So i went and go the blue gun to show him the fit. We had gotten the actual gun into the holster and got it stretched enough for it to still have a little more rentention then id like and we then put the blue gun in and it was very loose. I did not take any measurements to compare them but i knew that dude to the injection process there is shrinkage. So now when im molding the holster with blue guns i will wrap them in seran wrap and it seems to add the right amount to the blue gun vs real gun.
  7. Yep, I prefer to have the thumb safety covered on my 1911s that i carry, but i do rest my thumb on the thumb safety when shooting. Creates a habit so that you always make sure the safety is off when your ready to shoot. Skippy - those are T-nuts
  8. 6-32 is the thread size of the screw, and length i use 1/4inch and 3/8th depending on the type of holster im making. The snaps are Line 24 snaps from tandy, not sure what other manufacturers label them as.
  9. I had a few members inquire on how to do this process. So i got bored tonight and decided to try out a little tutorial, this is the way i sandwhich my t-nuts between two pieces of leather for Inside waist band loops T-nuts are 6-32 (1/4 inch barrel height) Screw i use are either 3/8 long or 1/4 depending on the application. #1 - I mark on the front of the leather where i want the t-nut to go, be sure to poke all the way through so its visible on the other side #2 Turn the leather over and find the spot where you poked through and either open the hole up slightly to make it more visible or mark it with a pen. #3 Take a 1/2 inch Forestner bit and line it up with the hole and go in about a 1/32 to 3/64ths DONT GO TO DEEP. We are just trying help the sandwhich so the t-nut does show through on either side of the leather. #4 Ok now take a 5/32 bunch and throw it in the drill press, line it up in the center of the hole you just made and push it through. Do a couple light pushes first to make sure you have the allightment right, when you do it lightly it will creative a light ring in the leather where your about to put the hole, you can move it accordingly until its lined up. Alternatively you can do this without a drill press and use a hammer, i prefer the drill press. #5 Trimming the T-nut - I have found that these t nut prongs are way to long, so i take a pair of side cutters and trim them way down to help stop them from poking through one side or pushing the leather up. I actually trim them down a little more then where the side cutters are at in the picture, but for the sake of taking a picture and giving you the general idea i had to move it up, otherwise it looked like i was just cutting the thing off entirely All trimmed down Ok so now when your ready to glue the two pieces of leather together, put your T-nut in the proper place and your done! The circle you see on that last pic is from the washer i put inbetween the wing and the loops. So dont be scared it shouldnt show through at all! I hope this helped someone out there!
  10. Thanks for the compliments, much appreciated. Woodandsteel - they are sorta stiff and sorta floppy. When i did the design i made a test peice to see how much space i needed to leave between the double layer for it to be able to fold over, after the backing piece for the front flap was burnished it made a little more gap then id like, so it added to a little flippy floppy, next time im going to put less space. I tried it one, its very comfortable. I didnt have my gun belt to try it with, so even with a regular belt it performed very well. If you want the pattern to try it out let me know, or feel free to make your own based off the design. I have another order for the same style holster except it will be fore a CW9 instead of a PM9 and it will have shark trim, so ill be sure to post the results of that.
  11. Nothin to special, first are a couple pairs of horse hide holsters. i really like how the natural one came out, these where hard jacked, id prefer medium but we cant always get what we want. Next up is a new design i came up with. Other versions have been out for a while but ive had a few requests for such an item so this i what i came up with. Horizontal mag carrier(need to come up with a cooler name) One is black, and the other is black with Aligator inlay, this was my first ever inlay job. Ok and the last one is going to be an All leather Tuckable IWB, well its not all leather i say 98 percent!! the 2 front straps that hold the loops on are reinforced with small peices of kydex. Came out pretty good. Thanks for looking!
  12. why are the edges not burnished? I think you should have burnished them it gives the holster a cleaner look... Why did you use belly? You know if you use some more premium cut of leather it will be stiffer and better for holster making and will make it come out nicer... hahahaha JK Eric Ok so the jokes aside. The only thing that i can see is what you have already pointed out about the ride height, i would just move the right wing up about 1/2" to 3/4" and remove a little meat from the left wing. Watch out that wrap around reinforced throat is addicting!!!
  13. was the holster molded from the original glock gun or from a Rings blue gun?
  14. Holsters over the last 6 months: 1911 5" 1911 3.5" Kahr MK9 Kahr PM9 Kahr CM9 Kahr CW9 Kahr K9 Kahr P380 Ruger SR9c Sig 1911 Tac ops Ruger SP101 Glock 30 HK USP Compact 9/40 Thats all i can remeber right now Current dummies im in need of HK P2000 HK P2000sk Seecamp 32 Ruger SR9c Kahr CM9 Kahr CW9 SIg Tac Ops (this one id realllllllly love and i know a few others on here would too) thats all i can think of for now.
  15. Very Interesting that you got this exotic stuff from tandy, I have been to a few tandy and none of them carry any of those exotic skins, for sure not elephant or Shark, and the only ostrich i have seen is cowhide print. Make sure you dony have cowhide with exotic print. Some of the stuff in there scrap bins looks pretty darn close to the real thing but it isnt.
  16. do you need it to be the gun, or can the outline work? my blue gun is in Las vegas currently, but i have my book of patterns on me.
  17. Looks good. Stitch lines on a Revolver are the hardest for me. once youve done it a few times youll learn where you can move the line in or out and get the stitch line closer (refering to revolvers im sure you have semi-autos down) What are you using to finish the surface of the leather. Also, i hate tandy snaps, i need to use up what i have and get away from them. The gun metal ones like you got, the finish seems to like to peel off there very easily. I have started putting a thing cloth down between the snap and the little circular seat that it sits in when getting set. it has helped with the stuff not chipping or wearing off but its another thing i have to do that is more of a pain in the butt. As far as boning revolvers... i tried on the first few to add some boning. but in the end i decided that just working it with my fingers really well and only boning the trigger guard gave me a good look that made me feel as though i molded it and still looked good with out looking like i needed to do more. If that makes any sense... my rambling is terrible sometimes.
  18. Thank you for the Compliment, it is much appreciated. Kemper Tools WT18, the circular end of it.
  19. Any picture of previously made ones? I figured in all the years of holster making that it wasnt something new, but i came up with it on my own.. Thank you for the compliment i appreciate it.
  20. Ok so what i have done is taking the Reinforced throat idea that i love so much and am highly addicted to, and mixed it with some belt slots. Im not sure if im the first one to make something like this as far as putting belt slots with the reinforced throat. When i say reinforced throat i am refering to the wrap around throat support that we all know from the Milt Sparks VMII. See i have not done a traditional Pancake holster in almost 6 months, my orders just havnt called for it, which is fine with me because im not a fan of doing the belt slots. So i didnt want to do a traditional pancake and i had the creative freedom to make something new thanks to the customer. So this is what i came up with! Well anyways, even if im not the first, i think the holster came out pretty darn good, and it was for a gun that i HATE, The S&W Sigma, but even though i hate the gun it dosnt mean it cant be made nice by covering it up in some nice leather . No picture off the blue gun in the holster.. its already boxed up and getting ready to ship out to woodandsteel.
  21. awesome holster sir. I really need to get my hands on a kimber solo, they look sweet.
