  1. Sucks catching up after a weekend away So how do you do the wet molding to shape it without effecting the tooling?
  2. Springfield will do 1/4", but you have to call or email for it. I've heard lots of good things around here about y-knot too, just haven't ordered anything from them yet since I've always been able to get it from Springfield for about the same price. http://y-knotlace.com/
  3. Yeah, this one was a lot more restrictive then normal. Kind of bummed I never got around to it, but life will do that to us every now and then.
  4. BROWN AND BLACK!!!!!!!! Sorry, had a Chancey moment just use brown as your main color and use black for highlights and the little bit of backgrounding you have.
  5. yeah!! I got something I have to start on that would work with any kind of dragon
  6. Cool stuff. I guess I got lucky with the side I have sitting there since it's from the right side of the cow.
  7. I don't know if there's actually a grain like you're referring to, but I know that a lot of times my pieces seem to want to fold a certain direction (usually the wrong direction). So, my answer is yes. But, with a little coercion, you can get it to fold whatever way you want. I think wet molding would actually eliminate many of the signs of it though.
  8. New Ink saturday!! It's like christmas because I don't even know what he has planned exactly. We'll see what I come out with tonight.

  9. I'm on a phone, so linking is a pain. Under the "how do I do that" section there's a guide to casing. Basically it's properly wetting your leather for tooling . Casing is definitely something you need, it just takes some time to get the hang of it. See - I hadn't even realized that I already posted the link to casing.
  10. My main reason for wanting the flex shaft is actually for fret work on guitars.
  11. Your collar's are looking pretty good. I really like those wings. But, I think you should work on your focus with the pictures. I think there might be some people turned away by the simple fact that they can't get a clear image of what they're looking at.
  12. For what it's worth, I've been eye balling the dremel 4000 that comes with the flex shaft. Reading reviews from hardcore Dremel users it seems to be fairly reliable and worth the money. I DO NOT recommend a portable/battery operated model. I can't say enough bad things about them and I've been stupid enough to try several.
  13. Loving what you did with the muscle structure.
  14. I like it!! Do you have any close up photos or is it too late for that?
  15. It's that family thing. That will keep anybody from getting stuff done on time.
  16. Yeah, what Sylvia said. If you don't have them, then I don't see a problem using similar tools. But if you do have them and want to use something else anyway......Chancey's demented Tiki will haunt your dreams
  17. I haven't really done any wet molding myself, so I don't know if any type would work, but I do know that veg tan will. There's the wet formed bag tutorial up top that might give some hints.
  18. As long as they're similar to what's available in the kit I wouldn't see a problem with it.
  19. I haven't used them since Sylvia just brought this to our attention the other day. But, I'm definitely going to be buying some. It's pretty much got all the strap sizes I would need between belts and cuff straps and I can tell by the pictures that all the holes are very well lined out. Since I don't have any strap punches, that part can easily take a lot of time to line up right (I'm really OCD), so I can see them saving me a lot of time.
  20. Not really - but there are some pretty creative folks around here. Maybe if you were to wet mold something around the tip? That might yield some cool results.
  21. Sorting through ALL my scraps and the last 2 pieces in the pile are the ones that will do the job. Should have known...

Should have looked at those first!

Yeah, but then they would have magically migrated to the top of the pile and still would have been the last pieces I look at :)

  22. Which book is that? I've been looking for more information on coloring techniques.
  23. Yeah, I only just found out about the .com store the other day when my wing dividers showed up and had the card in the package.
  24. Hi Foxy, I've heard good things about buckleguy in the past, but haven't purchased anything myself yet. I plan on it at some point though. http://www.buckleguy.com/belt-tips-loops/ Is that the kind of thing you're looking for, or are you looking for something made out of leather?
  25. Looking good Scott. Were those pictures posted in order of when you did them? You're flying right along, but it looks like you may be having some consistency problems with your casing (or it could just be the Tandy leather). Check out Bob Park's tutorial on Casing Leather on the top of the page here, as well as anything else that might interest you. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showforum=36
