  1. Hi you guys, I already own a few heavy leatermachines but the only thing I am missing is a machine with an arm for thick leather. Now I came across an Adler 5-37. With treadle stand. So no motor. I got a manual from Trox about Adler class 4 and 5 but I am not certain about this perticular one. Does it only have bottom feed? I would like to have a double feed machine. I called the old Lady but she can not answer my question. Somebody any ideas? Thanks in advance. Sandy. adler 5-37 voorkant.bmpadler 5-37 zijkant.bmp
  2. I used those solid core belts Amuckart mentioned. You can just weld (melting) them together right? Some types are real strechty though you don't want the stretchy ones. They come in smooth surface and some are rough ( you know what I mean with that?). The rough ones grip better. They are great for trying different setups without buying new v-belts all the time. Sandy.
  3. Thanks for your concern and tips Les No.6. But the little motor only runs at 140 rpm and then there is the speedreduction from the pulleys. It only sews at about 45 stitches/minute. I guess I could sew faster by hand? Won't do that though. In fact, I will slow down the motor even more with a frequency converter (VLP or VLD??). I realy don't want to stress the machine. It's only hobby so I will not be hurried stitching. Aaron Martin still sells needles Wizcraft, but don't know about the litthe shuttle spring. Didn't order the needles yet. Imca/Global Holland told me they had some needles I could try. They will send me a few for free to try!! Love those people already. So I will first try those needles. Just curious Amuckart. How far are you witch your no.6 restauration? Are there some pics on the net I could look at? Sandy.
  4. That was my second thought I guess but I skipped that one for some reason. I will give that a try tomorrow for sure. Sandy.
  5. I am no expert either but this doesn't sound like a savetyclutch problem to me?? At first I thought the clutch popped out by turning the wheel with no efford. But you have to turn it hard to make the clutch pop out? Then it is still jammed somewhere I think. Sandy.
  6. Those where my first thoughts. But I realy don't want to drill holes in the original parts. When I get my next pay ( ) I will go to a machineshop to ask what it will cost me. Don't have a clue. I will let you know. Sandy.
  7. Hi Mick, So there were multiple issues with the machine. It's hard to solve problems that way. But one is out of the way. Congrats on that. Let us know when you fixed it please. Maybe with some pics? It's just another welcome peace of information on the big pile overhere on this forum. Sandy.
  8. There are 3 heating elements in this machine. See picture. Didn't do anything with the needle. Just wrapped some 'copperfoil' around the shaft because it was to small. It still is about 1,5 cm to short. It isn't all the way in the needle bar. I am thinking about making (have somebody else make me one) a new longer needlebar. I wouldn't be able to sew as thick as it originaly could but I have no need to sew that thick. This way I could just use another shorter needle wich is easier to come by. Any thoughts on that?? Sandy.
  9. I think your right Machinehead. Must be a 143w1. The 3 is easily mistaken by a 5 if it's not realy clear. Sandy.
  10. Is it this one? Don't know anything about the machine though. Sandy.
  11. Hi Steve, I have never seen a 335 like this. The arm has an odd shape. Is this one especially for sole leather or harness leather? I have a 'normal' 335 myself. Don't think mine likes sole or harness leather. Sandy.
  12. I recieved your e-mails! You are very helpfull. Thanks alot! If I come across another Pearson I will deffinitly post it overhere. I am not interested in another one nore to make money. But maybe I can help someone out. Now it's No.6 playingtime again. I put an little motor on it and a needle that kind of fits, so I have to sew a lot of scrap leather today. Sandy.
  13. You are so right on that theoratical stuff. Not sure if I understand everything though. Not that technical with electronics. But in Holland (I guess in Europe) it is very very common to use Steinmetz with clutchmotors. Even sewingmachines comming out of the factory have this. Only a working capacitor. No starter capacitor. Could it be because of the difference 110 volts 60 Hz vs 220 volts 50 Hz?? I even use it with hydraulic pums. Works perfectly without getting anything hot or even warm. It doesn't work with machines witch need a lot of torque al the time like meat mincers. If Steinmetz doesn't work, I use a VFD also. Sandy.
  14. I'm sorry Mick. I wouldn't know. Have you fixed it yet? Sandy.
  15. Thats a lot of toy for relatively little money indeed. I realy would like to see some pictures of the parts I am missing. I don't know what parts you are revering to. Luckaly the bobbin is flat. But the spring in the shuttle underneath the bobbin is broken of. I have to fix that. It holds the bobin tight. I have ordered some needles at Strima. I am waiting for some respond from them. I am sure having my eyes open for these machines in Holland. But I have never seen them before though. I don't sell this machine. It has to many moving parts that I realy realy like. Just like my Junker & Ruh. I can't stop watching the moving parts. Thanks for the info. Am I missing some parts here? Here is a pick of the back amuckart. Greetings, Sandy.
  16. Hi Art, But are you using that running capacitor overthere also? In case of 3 phase motors ofcoarse to run on a 1 phase circuit? Steinmetz circuit? Very few people know about it overhere. Most of them think a 3 phase motor can not run on a one phase cicuit. You will loose a lot of torque, but it's still way enough for sewing. I know the motor doesn't like it but I have a Hamilton beach scovil milkshake mixer 110 volts running on 220 volts. It makes an awfull noise but it's still okay for a few years now. Still waiting to smell some smoke comming out of it, haha... Sandy.
  17. I am sure Bob knows a lot more of these machines than me. Sound to me like the safetyclutch doesn't work propperly. It doesn't 'set' anymore for some reason. I don't think it should pop out that easy? Ik have to mess things up pretty bad to make the clutch kick in? Maybe you could post some pictures of the clutch? I realy don't know how yours looks like. Sandy.
  18. I am talking about plain simple clutch motors. Do not have any experience with servo motors yet. I do have one motor with Efka variostop but that one also can run on 1 or 3 phase due to the capacitor. Sandy.
  19. It's a industrial machine isn't it? The industrial machines in Holland all (95? of 100) run on 3 phase motors. When only 1 phase is available there is a running capacitor placed, making it run on just 1 phase wich all houses have. 220 Volt though. This way the motor can run both ways. When it's a one phase motor there is also a capacitor placed, called a starting capacitor. It makes the motor run in one direction. You can choose wich way by connecting it different. I guess there isn't much difference between 110 volts (US) alternating curent and 220 volts alternating current (europe). Or am I wrong?? That's all where my knowledge gets me so far. Let us know when you get with your friend. Sandy.
  20. Does it have 2 or 4 brushes? If it has 4 he must have switsched the connectons. I had it with my startermotor once. But does it have 4??? Does it have a capacitor? Don't know what kind of motor is in it. Sandy. [
  21. Thanks Trox and Bob for advising me to buy it. I did and I am very happy with it. I don't think it has got any wear. Everything is pretty tight. Everything works and luckily there was a shuttle and bobin in it. Took me half an hour to figure out to locate it and take it out. The seller didn't know either. Too bad there was only one broken needle with it. I have to search for them. I put another needle in it just too try if it worked. I had a big thread tension issue, but it didn't skip stitches. So I guess it works fine. It's difficult to handle the pressorfoot without the treadle stand. I think I will make it pneumatic in the future. First looking for some needles. Few questions: If it is an English machine, why are they so rare in Europe????? Why is it called a pearson? I can not find that brand name anywhere on the machine? Trox, the guy didn't have anything else for sale. For now it's just standing in the corner being pretty. Sandy.
  22. That checaflo guy gave me the convidence to upholster my car wit leather. You can come pretty far only watching his videos. He's doing a great job. I hope he leaves his videos on youtube when he finishes his online coarse. Sandy.
  23. Oh, I passed on the Necchi. Think I will be needing the money for the Pearson indeed. Sandy.
  24. Hi there Bob, Unfortunatly the treadle stand isn't there. So I have to opperate everything by hand. Have to take a good look at the machine tomorrow as I realy don't know this machine, how it opperates and stuf. Don't realy know where to look for. Only saw a short video on youtube. But that wasn't realy revealing. It is gonna be an exiting day for me, haha... I will let you know if I bought it or not. Sandy.
  25. Are you for real??? 2000???? Why? Are they collectors items, or are they realy good stitchers. Can't imagine they are worth 2000. I will have a look at it tomorrow anyway. If the shuttle is in there I will buy it. The seller doesn't know anything about sewingmachines so he couldn't answer any of my questions. The Necchi is the first picture. So the seller told me so. I don't think its a Necchi because I couldn't find any info about Necchi sewingmachines looking like this. I think its an Adler, singer or something like that. Sandy.
