IFoLG 2009 Competition Room Pics
Clay replied to Johanna's topic in Special Events, Contests and Classes
Kathy, Thank you for taking my stuff to the show. I am excited that I got a couple of ribbons. The pictures are great Johanna, thanks for sharing. It looks like it was a tough competition. All of the leatherwork is impressive. ClayM. -
It was a blast!! ClayB did an outstanding job teaching the class. He had a full color lesson plan that covered the steps that was given to each student and they were also given enough leather dust to make several more of the birds when they got home. I had two of the students come back on Monday and pick up leather, cova colors and other supplys to work on their own projects. Very successfull class!!! If anyone wants to learn the 3-D leather embossing get ClayB to come teach it to you!!! It is worth three times the class fee!! ClayM.

Johanna, It was great to meet you in person after all this time. I had alot of fun this year. I think that picture you took proves that. LOL couldn't fine one with me looking a little more sober? My wife and kids were able to come with me for their first time. The wife now understands why I like to go to Sheridan. It is a great town with lots of colorful people and history. If any of you can I strongly suggest going next year. You can meet me at the Mint!! ClayM -

I am happy to announce that the Central States Fair held in Rapid City SD will have a structured leather contest for the 2009 fair. Previously leathercraft was lumped in with the other arts and crafts with one class, meaning the person who made a tooled belt was up against the person who made a saddle and for best of show they were up against the beadwork and needlecraft. Now the leather contest has 29 classes and youth to master skill levels. This contest will be sponsored by the Dakota Territory Leather Guild. Members will be demonstrating their leather craftsmanship each day during the fair. The guild is planning in the future to have a trophy for the best of show and peoples choice winners. There has been talk of a rodeo style belt buckle and a tooled leather plaque. I believe that the members from Nebraska and Wyoming will be able to enter their work, I will confirm this and let every one know. If you are interested in entering your work please call 1-877-800-1853 Monday to Friday 9-6 mountain time, for more information. ClayM.

I have not been able to do much leather work this year, but I did this one for a friend who is building a website and it will be on the background of the front page. it was done on a dark skirting with several coatings of oil then antiqued with dark brown paste. The web site is going to be done in dark colors so i wanted the carving to match it a little. Thanks! bert
