Ok... I sketched a fishing scene with a little boy....sure wish I was better with perspective.

I would say you need to question him more about "too big" I know kids often think in terms of the entire purse including the handle. (makes sense to me) What about that 70/80 man purse that was worn on the belt? Like this https://www.leathercraftlibrary.com/p-1180-bold-spirit-belt-bag.aspx? or this... https://www.leathercraftlibrary.com/p-1181-small-belt-bag.aspx?

SLC has them. And I saw one at a second hand place online. They can still be had. As for "not going everywhere" get a few tips and file them. I didn't like the bluntness of mine so I file a steeper angle on mine. It works much better for me now. Here's the link at SLC. A few months ago I heard they were sold out and on back order.... so you might want to call before you order. http://springfieldleather.com/store/search.asp

It is adjustable via a Set screw... just unscrew and adjust the saddle where you want it. They have a face book and somewhere I saw photos where it shows how short or long the knife can be. I'll try to find them again. In the mean time here is a review from facebook from a new user of the knife. I received my Tangleboss today and tried it out. It is just remarkable. I am a beginner and could do cuts that I could not do or would struggle to do with an ordinary swivel knife. It doesn't come with a blade or a hex wrench for the set screws, but still, I think it is an incredible knife which is going to make leather cutting a much easier task now-especially for beginners like me. Ok... McJeep. If you go here http://www.tanglefoottraders.com/#!__knife-sales-page Then click on the swivel knife picture.... a pop up will show 2 other pictures which show the knife and it's min and max adjustments.

I understand how you feel, Joe. I've managed to get a couple of decent and better knives .I've also struggled to get smooth cuts, even with practicing some daily, experimenting with casing, and the different blades. I think part of my problem is being tense. I watch the pros do it and they seem relaxed and confidant as they cut and they don't seem to give a rip if they get off the tracing line. But this knife has some interesting characteristics. I've practiced circles and haven't had much luck getting a nice one cut. This knife, to me, acts like a pencil...in that it moves and cuts in any direction. I think I like that.

Oh trust me I would have to fanagle big time to get that one... hubby already went "they want how much?" lol He seems to forget that he bought a $400 soldering unit a few years ago. I was over at that "other leather carver forum" and the response is pretty good... and Tim says that he's had his testers tell him that a flat blade does work. AND it takes standard Tandy or Common blades. I hope to get a chance to go see a leather show someday and maybe he'll have an exhibit.

I think this is "breaking news" here. The tangleboss swivel knife looks very nice I would love to feel how this works. http://www.tanglefoottraders.com/home#!__tangleboss_swivelknife

wow! that got there fast... I'm always amazed with first class shipping via Paypal. I figured the kids would like the mystery braid... I remember being pretty enamored with it when I first learned it in class all those years ago. I'm glad I could help even just a little. Have fun...

Oh yeah.... how about heat shrink over surgical tubing to make a sealed padded plump surface?
-
<<<<<clamps eyes shut tight, plugs ears and sings... "la la la la!!" Seriously though... they do look nice. Let me know how you like the 14oz one.

Are you planning to actually weave with weft and warp? Or are you thinking of making a lattice like one would a cherry pie? If you go with a real weave, it would be easier.
-
Thanks Billie! These tutorials are wonderful. Nice find.
-
That's awesome that you found those stamps. Did your SLC leather come yet?
-
I have a few of those laying around somewhere. Another thought is that surgical tubing... the rubber stuff. I know it comes in a few sizes.
-
Hi Chief... This is a great tip! Sometimes those thin handled stamps are really a pain. I'm going to give this a try! Thank you!

I accept your apology too, Pete. Going forward let us all try to keep our thoughts forum posts... positive, informative and fun. Negativity only breeds negativity.. So to bring a smile back to your face.... Mr. Jerry Reed... "Trying Stuff On." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjJN1QKAXZs

I don't have one of these sewing machines but..... the bump on the bottom looks to me like the needle is dull and is forcing it's way though the leather instead of puncturing it. Have you changed the needle yet to see if it improves that issue?
-
LOL, Bruce.... I just love you. You are my kind of people.

I have been corrected in PM by pete. "Ambassador means I've contributed monetarily to the forum"

Pete I think what you are neglecting to understand is there are folks here who have VERY little money due to the economy and perhaps being on a fixed income. That "$10 box cutter" is from their previous life when money flowed like greased lightening. Now the situation is different. Not all of us have unlimited funds... and the scrap I've seen online costs WAY more than $3 especially when you add shipping. Now, in my case when I started here, I had some tools and kits from about 6 years ago. But I was utterly and completely broke... I had a whopping $10 a month coming in from an affiliate program I'm involved in. IN fact... Our retirement accounts are gone, zip, nada, zilch...ZERO left in them... and now we are digging ourselves out of a hole since the husband finally got a job after nearly 4 years of being unemployed. (I've not had a job in 6 years) So Hell Yeah, $3 is a lot for a bag of scraps with no guarantee that any of them will be large enough to do anything with. To make it clear to you... I saved, scrimped and struggled to even get through last year. I learned to can, preserve and build a solar dehydrator out of what I already had. So for you to come a long and say $3 is nothing... pfft... "Float, baby.... Float" Ambassador... just means he's answered or posted a lot on this forum.

I can't imagine what this forum would be like if NO ONE asked questions. It most certainly, would be a stagnant pool with a few self-important turds floating around. To the New folks...If you can't find it... please feel free to private message me. I will answer as best I can.... If don't know the answer, I will research for the answer for you or find the link to another forum post. I do this because... when I help to teach others, I learn as well. I don't have an arrogant bone in my body.... I will help you if I can and I'll do it nicely. Promise! Personally, I applaud those that ask the questions I never thought of..... because through them, I learn. Now, may I suggest that we let this topic die?

My red tandy modeling tool's pointed end pokes right through those holes. If you need to, use a straight pin. One of the thin ones for quilting with the big plastic heads should work.
-
Uhmmmm..... having a bad day, Pete? The main thing I would like to point out is that what is "cheap" to YOU may not be so damn cheap to someone else. Also "noobs" often start with a Kit... which they paid way too much for and feel anxious about screwing up. Please don't fault their efforts to ask. Sometimes people have no idea how to search these things out on a forum. Just because they HAVE a computer doesn't mean they are adept at using it.
-
Oooo found some tools from a Deluxe Kit that I won't use either... so those are in your package too. Come on folks... let's set these kids up!!
-
Squid: I think I might have a set of stamps you can have. It's from a "real leather" set... nothing fantastic it's nice and small so the kids can do "Native American" images like arrows and stuff. Send me your address at the Camp and I'll send it first class today or tomorrow I'll never use it so I'd be willing to give it up to a good cause.
