  1. I have been corrected in PM by pete. "Ambassador means I've contributed monetarily to the forum"
  2. Pete I think what you are neglecting to understand is there are folks here who have VERY little money due to the economy and perhaps being on a fixed income. That "$10 box cutter" is from their previous life when money flowed like greased lightening. Now the situation is different. Not all of us have unlimited funds... and the scrap I've seen online costs WAY more than $3 especially when you add shipping. Now, in my case when I started here, I had some tools and kits from about 6 years ago. But I was utterly and completely broke... I had a whopping $10 a month coming in from an affiliate program I'm involved in. IN fact... Our retirement accounts are gone, zip, nada, zilch...ZERO left in them... and now we are digging ourselves out of a hole since the husband finally got a job after nearly 4 years of being unemployed. (I've not had a job in 6 years) So Hell Yeah, $3 is a lot for a bag of scraps with no guarantee that any of them will be large enough to do anything with. To make it clear to you... I saved, scrimped and struggled to even get through last year. I learned to can, preserve and build a solar dehydrator out of what I already had. So for you to come a long and say $3 is nothing... pfft... "Float, baby.... Float" Ambassador... just means he's answered or posted a lot on this forum.
  3. I can't imagine what this forum would be like if NO ONE asked questions. It most certainly, would be a stagnant pool with a few self-important turds floating around. To the New folks...If you can't find it... please feel free to private message me. I will answer as best I can.... If don't know the answer, I will research for the answer for you or find the link to another forum post. I do this because... when I help to teach others, I learn as well. I don't have an arrogant bone in my body.... I will help you if I can and I'll do it nicely. Promise! Personally, I applaud those that ask the questions I never thought of..... because through them, I learn. Now, may I suggest that we let this topic die?
  4. My red tandy modeling tool's pointed end pokes right through those holes. If you need to, use a straight pin. One of the thin ones for quilting with the big plastic heads should work.
  5. Uhmmmm..... having a bad day, Pete? The main thing I would like to point out is that what is "cheap" to YOU may not be so damn cheap to someone else. Also "noobs" often start with a Kit... which they paid way too much for and feel anxious about screwing up. Please don't fault their efforts to ask. Sometimes people have no idea how to search these things out on a forum. Just because they HAVE a computer doesn't mean they are adept at using it.
  6. Oooo found some tools from a Deluxe Kit that I won't use either... so those are in your package too. Come on folks... let's set these kids up!!
  7. Squid: I think I might have a set of stamps you can have. It's from a "real leather" set... nothing fantastic it's nice and small so the kids can do "Native American" images like arrows and stuff. Send me your address at the Camp and I'll send it first class today or tomorrow I'll never use it so I'd be willing to give it up to a good cause.
  8. So let me get this straight... we are to DRAW, Compose or otherwise make our own pattern... that is a landscape that says "in the heart of the summer" to us then attempt to carve it using what ever tools we wish?
  9. This is about the coolest thing I've ever seen!! I can't really tell... because the pictures are so dang small... but I think they look pretty cool from a distance.
  10. Update: His daughter posted this morning that he's had surgery to relieve some pressure on his brain. He is in critical but stable condition. They still do not know how much brain damage he's sustained.
  11. Some companies call it foil leather. http://www.justleather.com/ http://www.dantonleather.com/New-Metal.html I've not used these so I know have a clue as to what your experience will be.
  12. Yep! Exactly why I withdrew my interest in the round knife.

  14. I had to email him from his LW forum profile link... down and on the left. It took him several days before he replied. He told me that he does not take paypal and to " Please be patient as I only find time to check my email every three or 4 days."
  15. I use paint.net for my graphics program. I go about this differently. Original, remove excess background. I do this by drawing a circle mask and Ctrl-X to cut the image I want from the original. Then I paste as new image. (edit-paste as new image) Then save. Then... I go to Effects-Stylize-Outline... I get this. Then I change it to black and white. Adjustments - Black and White. It needs a little more help so I click Effects, Artistic, Ink Drawing. And I get this. Done. Keep in mind this works best with a photo or picture that has good contrast initially.
  16. That's very good news Union! I am very glad you found my post helpful. They are such a wonderful couple... and I can't say enough good things about them.
  17. Are any of the pieces from your broken one salvageable? What broke?
  18. Sharpening, sharpening, sharpening....

  19. LOL No, YOU ROCK.
  20. I just got an email from this fellow.... he doesn't take paypal and wants money orders.
  21. Sylvia

I withdraw my interest in this item. The gentleman does not take paypal.
  22. ha ha ha... Yes... I understand it's important to show the guitar who is boss. I'm pretty sure he tunes the guitar down to either drop D or DADGAD for that one. If you like Jim... you should look up his CD First Fruits. He has lots of christian music on it. All fingerstyle. And all really well played.
  23. And here's a decent video that may help too
  24. Ok then. For buck stitch you'll need at least this e-book. https://www.leathercraftlibrary.com/p-1123-lacing-and-stitching-for-leathercraft.aspx? 3/16" thonging chisel (I like the angled ones) 3/16" single chisel locking needles 3/16" flat leather lace. (white is hard to find btw) scissors Read the book first it will give what else you need... As for the leather... can't advise you on the upholstery leather... that's really something you want to see and feel.
  25. Buck stitching looks like the white stitches on the photo on this page. http://www.buckstitched.com/ Is that the look you are going for?
