Would like to know if any leatherworkers are in Dixie Utah? I'm in Washington. People from Hurricane, St. George, LaVerkin, Toquerville.....let's hookup!

Most of my friends think I'm so old that I helped make the Grand Canyon. I didn't. I just turned 59. Next year is going to make me really depressed when I think about that number. Jeez, turning 30, I thought my life was over.....

Ya know, I don't think I've ever been called that before??!! Same to you!!

If it's too thin, just fold it over and double it. I still don't know how well they take dyes. or even if they can be veg tanned!

I'm there also, but the "image" I'm displaying is an attempt to be bizarre but it's not working 'cause too many people know me. My pic is the same as my avatar here. http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile....amp;ref=profile

Another "Bryan" from California, WELCOME! I'm in Orange, about 5 miles from Disneyland. Your work is wonderful! If they offer you coffee and donuts, take the coffee, beware the donuts. I think somebody's dog has been in there!

Do we want an "Anything Goes" Forum?
Washroad replied to Johanna's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
It appears from the posts and votes that the majority of people that have read/voted are against such a forum as "Anything Goes." I support that. I will also support Johanna 100% on any decision she makes as should the rest of us. Without her, "we" wouldn't be here, ya know? I enjoy this website as it is! -
Jordan, I've been to Idlywild many, many times. My father-in-law lives in Hemet and Palm Springs is a place my wife and I go when we want a quick get-away. Cool model of house you're building!

Do we want an "Anything Goes" Forum?
Washroad replied to Johanna's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
I think everything is "political." Not everything is controversial. Not everything causes great disruption. An "Anything Goes" forum might be OK, password protected and only people with 100oz skin should be allowed in. Send Johanna proof when applying. -
Since you're coming to So Cal, where you planning on going? Can't beat the weather here, ya know?

The company I work for is small and family owned. We saw the economy going several years ago and started taking steps then to protect and position ourselves. I haven't had a raise in 4 years but because of that I haven't had a cut in pay either and my check still comes every week and doesn't bounce. Not a single penny has been added to my profit-sharing account in 3 years and that is part of my retirement (I'll never get to retire, I'm going to drop dead in the office someday). My dental benefits end at the end of this month. I think McCain would've sucked as president; maybe not quite as much as Obama, but he would've still sucked. I didn't vote for either of them. McCain was all in favor of the bailout also. That would've been no different if he'd won. So, we'd still be in the same place. Obama is more socialist than McCain, that's pretty much a given. He thinks govmint can solve our problems while I KNOW govmint is the problem. I dislike Obama because of his appointments/nominations for one thing; tax evaders kept getting nominated when they should've been in jail like any of the rest of us "little" people. He's also gone green. He drove a Chrysler 300 with a 5.7 litre V8 until he started his campaign, then he went and got a hybrid, stated having Al Gore over for lunch, appointed Cho to the Department of the Interior. All of that makes me boil!! McCain wouldn't have been much better. They all suck. Know how to tell a politician is lying? Their lips are moving. Gotta go.

Rant away!! I don't like anyone telling me how to live. I think I'm doing a pretty good job of figuring it out for myself. My dad was a child of the depression of the 30's. Since they didn't own land and couldn't really raise food for themselves, and my grandfather was a mechanic that was sometimes paid with "food," my dad and grandfather hunted and put food on the table. They could sell the hides for a few extra $$$. Sorta like people had been doing for, oh say, a few THOUSAND years.

This is not work or child friendly, but you just gotta love Penn and Teller.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9ijLulwUTY

She is weird. She's also a fanatic. Let her do those things and I'll be very unimpressed. BTW, how many of you know that jerk bill maher is on peta's bod?

I'm a registered Libertarian. People think I'm "liberal" on a lot of things, really "conservative" on others. I just make up my own mind about things. That's what I think most folks should do. After talking a bit with most people, I find that they really are "in the middle" and when they start thinking are no longer "knee jerk" about most things. Oh yeah, in addition to the "traits" you described for ranchers, I've found most of them to be friendly and helpful also!

I live in Orange County and we just got a new Sheriff. She's busy revoking as many CC permits as she can. Considering that there are 3 million people in this county, only 1500 had permits (1 in every 2000 people) and she's revoking them. A couple of cities here have a pretty bad gang/murder problem but that doesn't seem to concern her. I can carry a weapon in my car provided it's unloaded and the ammunition is locked up somewhere like in the trunk. I drive a pickup so I guess I have to put a lock box in the bed of the truck. So now if I get assaulted, I can ask them to wait while I get my key and unlock my ammo box. The thing is, then firing in public is illegal here. When I travel in my motorhome in this state, I can carry under the same restrictions. When I park, shut off the engine and remove the keys from the ignition, the motorhome becomes my residence and I can have a loaded weapon and defend myself. I know when I'm breaking the law and will take full responsibility for myself if caught. I do not advocate breaking the law by any means. As far as having weapons, I have a "few" pistols and just acquired a 12 gauge shotgun.

Financial Rape and Plunder of the World
Washroad replied to Jordan's topic in All About Us and Off Topic
Not yet. The legislature is still trying to get a budget passed. They need one more vote (Republican) to pass it. The CA senate is locked in and can't leave. If the budget doesn't pass, then yes, the IOUs will go out and that will start in a couple of days. If the budget passes and Governor Schwarenegger Shriver signs it, then no IOUs but a major increase in taxes. I figure that my taxes will go up at least $2000 this year alone and that's not counting the sales tax increase. I'm working for a small family owned company and been here 18 years so far. We knew this was coming and got ready for it. I haven't had a raise in 4 years now. My boss (company owner) took a 3 month no pay and a 10% cut. We haven't hired anyone in 3 years but we haven't laid off anyone either. We're going to survive this. When my wife and I bough our house back in '99, we saved up for almost 5 years to buy it with a 10% down. We bought a beat-to-hell rental with an absentee landlord but we were so happy to get it and we do love the place and we can afford the payments. We also put a few bucks in the bank. My profit sharing is going down. So is my wife's 401K. OK, well, we have a long time until retirement. We'll be alright. Rawhide, yeppers! You're right. We did this to ourselves. I gotta say some people got into situations they shouldn't have but they did. Like buying a house with 3% down, adjustable mortgage, no credit check, and then they can't make the payment with the increase in interest. Duh. I know a guy that bought a house in Huntington Beach that way. He paid $500,000 for it. Managed to keep it 3 years. Didn't sell it, rather he "lost" it in foreclosure. I asked him how he could afford a house that had a $5,000 month payment. He said the first year it was only $2600! Then it went up. Now, I know where this guy works. We make about the same amount of money and I can't afford $2600 a month! WTH was he thinking? He was thinking he'd sell it in a few years and make a lot of money. Didn't happen. Lots of these around right now. -
I joined this site to learn and have a good time also! and I am! I grew up arguing politics with my family and friends. I always respect another's opinion (unless you're a politician). I think everything is political and that doesn't make it bad. Windy, I know I shouldn't sugar-coat things! But I'm not a Republican. I don't like Republicans anymore than I like Democrats. I'm a Libertarian (should I duck now???). My opinion (just like George Carlin's); the planet is fine. It's the people that are *************!!

Financial Rape and Plunder of the World
Washroad replied to Jordan's topic in All About Us and Off Topic
California can go bankrupt and I won't notice a thing! In fact, it'd be nice to have a bit less govmint for awhile. Currently, the state legislature is looking for just one more vote to pass the budget that Governor Schwarzenegger Shriver is willing to sign. Thursday, they threaten to layoff 10,000 people feeding at the public trough. I'm like, so? Maybe they can go out and get a real job. Several years ago, Orange County (where I live, not in the "county" but in an incorporated city) went bankrupt. The news acted like it was a BFD. I didn't notice a thing. The courts were still open, the sheriff was still on patrol. The thing that is making me angry about the California budget is that were have too much govmint and they won't cut back on govmint but they want to increase taxes to pay for their crap! I already pay a lot of taxes. After filing, the state of California keeps 9.5% of my gross income, not counting property taxes (over $2500), sales tax (currently 7.75% but going up to at least 9%), ad infitum, ad nauesum. I haven't even gotten to the federal yet. So, yeah Jordan, I'm upset too. I wish I was as self-sufficient as Trooper! -
Click here... http://www.arra-access.com/arra/home.html and read how congress is intending to stop the sale of small ATVs because of lead content. So, if this becomes law, we can no longer buy the small ATVs for children, even though the lead level has NEVER been harmful to anyone. Gotta have Big Brother take care of me.....where's my welfare check/ bailout money? Yes, the media is liberal for the most part. OK, the guy that owns it is rich, so? It's all about money and power. You get the money, now you want the power. Al "I'm a lying no good fraud" Gore is an example; he's managed to raise close to $500 million in his campaign to stop global warming (even though he doesn't walk the walk, he just shoots his mouth off when he should be shooting something else). He's gotten the ear of obama, most of the liberal members of congress (who know so much better how I should live than I do myself) and now STUPID laws are going in effect and have been because of scum sucking camel lickers like him. I think the lead laws are ridiculous, stupid. and I'm truly worried about America.

I saw some of this on the news. Really scary, horrible. Tragic loss of life. Anyone here "threatened" from this fire?

Yeah, it's an obamanation, isn't it? -
It's really cold here. We left the heat off last night and when I got up this morning it was clear down to 62 degrees in the house! Had to turn the heat on so I wouldn't get cold taking a shower. We had rain for 3 days, and now we don't have any more. It's 70 degrees, light wind, sunny. Normal winter weather. Well, whadaya want? This is the "OC". Come on over, Roo! We have a guest room at our house!

My first punch was the Economy. After a good bit of use, the punch tube wheel started wobbling around and the whole thing got really loose. I tossed it. I have the next grade now. The biggest difference is the punch tubes are replaceable. When a tube gets dull, just unscrew it and put in another. Now, I'm saving my allowance for some things and an Osborne is on the list, I think it's third!
