That is the joy of living in Europe everything is taxed to the hilt then on top of that we have VAT tax at 20%. I would love to know how to make a nice spirit Don't know why moonshine is not made here .

Art you spelt the name correct translated it means rocky shore. On the name thing I am a saddlemaker. my surname is MacEachran translated it means Son of the Lord of the Horses. Whisky is good for you tale. A old man went to the doctor........the doctor asked did he drink......the old man said yes doctor a good class of whisky every day......the doctor said oh my you can't do that whisky is bad for you.......the old man said no way I will keep drinking my glass every day. The doctor is ready for the old man at his next appointment.......he says to the old man I have prepared an experiment to show you what whisky does.. The doctor puts two glasses on his desk one with water the other with whisky in it........He gets a worm and puts it in the glass of water and the worm swims around in it........he then puts a worm in a glass of whisky immediately the worm dies. The doctor looks at the old man and says I hope that is taught you a lesson. The old man says yes doctor I just cant thank you enough for showing me that. I now know if I keep drinking my whisky I will never get worms.....

Do you mean the saddle tree? How far into their video is it? If it is the saddle tree it is made from laminated beech ply...........7 or 9 layers are glued together in a mould and set in a oven or in a vacuum press.

I could get you the name of a supplier for the bridle studs in the UK. Not sure if you are looking for it in your own country. Let me know as I would have to look for the details. Your buckle is called a crown buckle with a roller. This can be bought from abbey england but I would try f martins first as abbey is not the best for price. fmartinandson.co.uk

I don't know The make Tanners. however I use lots of contact cement. You can buy it from abbey saddlery. or a good old fashioned hardware shop you should be able to buy bostic in a tin from there. Depending on what you are making you could alway buy pearl glue and melt it in a pot. This is good stuff but easier to buy ready made.

I never drink whisky unless it is for medicinal purposes. As I have a bit of athritic pain I have to take a we dram about twice a month. When I was a kid I wanted to be an alcoholic when I grew up. I think its good to have an ambition. However my ambition went downhill and I became a saddle maker. Trox I taught in South Carolina for about a year and moonshine was a good local measurement. As to drinking laphroaig. You would get the same taste if you went to Islay and ate the peat straight of the ground.

Ginger nuts are better when you dip them and get them wet. Beat you on the getting drunk age Kerryanne. I was one and a half. I would not go to sleep when there was a party at my granddads. So he gave me a wee tate of whisky saying that will knock the wee bugger oot. What he did not know was my granny my uncle and my own dad had the same idea. I was more awake in my cot after that. and still like a dram today

Two weeks till I move to my Scottish house for good and get to eat things like Black Pudding, Fruit Pudding, Tattie Scones, Haggis and Deep fried Mars bars. I might have to spend a lot of time on my boat fishing. Dang why is life so hard. And you never know I might make a belt making video and fish at the same time. Names off other foods you can get in the UK are Faggots....Fitless Cock Hobnobs a nice yummy banger Toad in the hole and nothing like having a nice cream tea. Art.....They never made a bad whisky they just made some better than others.

I never ask for spotted dick when I go to America. It is a very nice desert here. can't understand why they don't like it in America.

I thought you might like it Kerryanne. We Scots do have a wonderful use of words.

it is a fantastic tool cuts way faster than a plough gauge

Trox Fid is a Scottish word for food. Fud is another Scottish word that is very rude. You would call someone a fud if you are insulting them. Also in Scotland if you are a friend then we might insult you to show you are a friend, I would be banned from this site if I told you some of the names I call my friends. I will explain the word Fud. So be warned stop reading if you don't like rude words. A Fud is the part of the woman's body a baby comes out.

Hi Trox That tool is not on sale anywhere it was made at Jeffries and the will not sell them.

Your welcome. Getting the heat right will come with practice. Test on a bit of scrap leather first. You don't want to burn the leather. Look at the E Jeffries video about 2 minutes 15 seconds in you will see George the bridle maker heating a shoulder crease. I use a shoulder crease also but can take a bit of getting the hang of it so screw crease is a good and cheaper way to start. The video is good it shows you the speed we work at in the factory's over here. It might also show you how to stain and burnish several straps at once. I worked in the saddle making department for Jeffries. It is also worth a look on their video. Hope this link works if not go onto google and type e Jeffries video. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fTDhLlu13V0 You can also look at my videos on YouTube the using a round knife to do a belt point might be of interest..... Type uksaddlery into YouTube

It is rare I keep my patterns. I normally use wall lining paper. In the trade they use paper then if going to use often they use 2 pound board this looks like 3mm thick card. If they are going to cut often from it they will cut it out of zinc sheet or aluminium sheet If they have a clicker press then press knifes.

I think art knows the term also... I am at my Scottish house at the moment only two more weeks to move permanent I will keep an eye out on eBay

I teach in the USA lots by the End of the course everyone can swear in Scottish ..... This will be funny to kerryanne. I was listening to s radio station in England the presenter had Robbie Coltrane coming on she said over and over again Robbie is a man who loves his fud . As soon as Robbie came on he said you mean fid. the Mike went of and on follows by a presenter apologising like hell. Fid for all you guys who don't know means food. As to fud. I am not going to translate

Simon is right it also might be worth looking at eBay you just have to be patient with it sometimes the prices are stupid on there but sometimes they are real cheap
