  2. I thought I did it's my old age. Ah well I will do some new videos showing some tips on belt making/ strap goods. I do some things a little different to the way other YouTube videos show
  3. Make a handbag in 6 minutes I had someone ask me to post this video on facebook and can't remember if I already posted here. This is an easy bag for a beginner to make. and you might even sell it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIbHyV7jO5k
  4. i have at least 40 bridle/saddle butts and a few thousands of feet panel hide.. Mostly from Sedgwick's and Pittards . I kept them in a trailer until recently. The trailer had no heat but was dry and I have never had a problem with it. The oldest piece might be about 6 years old. I also have 5 pig skins that I forgot about and left in a damp cellar for 15 years they had mould on them , but all I did was wash them in the bath with soapy water and they are fine just a little dry . I will oil them when ever I need them. P.S. The wife don't know about them getting washed in the bath
  5. I don't know the Tippmann machine. I looked at it on youtube and it looks like hard work. If you want to stitch that thickness then a k45 should do it with a walking foot. You might be able to get one on ebay. I have a k45 but not with a walking foot I bought it for the wife to do work on but she wants to keep her beat up old k45. If you get desperate give me a shout and I will look at the spare one and see if it will do that thickness. It cost me £300. I am moving my shop at the moment and not had a chance to look at this machine yet
  6. Welcome to the forums as to football I can't help you there I'm from Scotland
  7. Try Hartley sewing machines in Walsall if not there is another company in Telford that does leather machines. I can't remember their name but look on eBay under industrial leather machines they sell in that
  8. I agree with Art call the leather suppliers. I have always found them helpful. They want you to keep coming back and it is not in there best interest to give you something that is no good
  9. welcome to the forums. nice job on the shoes
  10. You have to make sure you go to the right school That has clicker presses skiving machines etc learn how to make your wallets etc. When you have gained a bit of knowledge start to contact factory's that make the types of products you are planning to make and ask for a look round. Lots of factory's will be happy to show you round their premises if you are a student or prospective buyer. You will be amazed at how much knowledge you will pick up by doing that. Instead of doing a full time course look at short courses. Go for a week or two then go home and practice what you learned in your own time then go do another course to fix any problems you may have. Do that a few times might work for you. Another suggestion I have for you: If going to a full time course as an over seas student costs silly money then compare that cost to employing someone in your own country to show you how to do it. My leathercraft side of teaching is aimed at the type of leatherworker who wants a good hobby or to earn some cash doing one of items. My saddlery side is aimed at hobbyists and people who want to open large factories. So no good for what you are after. I only say that so you will realises my advice is genuine. If you send me a link to the type of course you are planning to go on I can tell you if I think it meets your needs.
  11. I run a saddlery school in the UK and I am a professional award winning saddle maker . I am not answering this to tout for work only to advice. I would say if you have a chance to go to a good school you will learn a lot faster and more techniques than you will learn on youtube. I have looked at many youtube videos and think they are great for the person who wants to start out and can be of use to a professional on some jobs he may have not done before. However the professional will look at the videos and mix that input with his already gained knowledge. If you are after a nice hobby that will make you some pocket money to start of with learn from youtube . If you want to make this a full time job then go on a course. I have taught many people all over the world and most have already been doing leather work in one way or another. After a few days on a course they will start to tire not because of the work but because of the amount of information they get. A difference between a hobbyist and a professional can be seen by watching a you tube video showing someone bevelling the edges and looking at the E Jeffries video about 2 minuets into their video
  12. I think the best by an easy mile for making English style saddles . It would have to be the award winning saddler at Uksaddlery.com in Scotland. But then again I might just be a little bit bias .
  13. I have been running a tack shop as one of my businesses for 16 years turning over around 600 k dollars a year we have never used a program everything was done on paper it worked for us. We just did a simple in and out ledger then handed the details to our account to make sure we never over paid the tax man I have 3 other business that make good money but less paper work and we still use the same system You can buy ledger books like quick books if you don't want to write headings like fuel petty cash etc If you do want to spend money on software then a few of my friends use sage
