I'm glad it worked for you monkey. It is one of the ways I train students in my school
-
This is something I cant teach. I pile stuff all over the place. My school has 5 boards 8 foot by 4 foot. if I am in the school on my own working on an idea or a design I use all 5 boards. One day I will have to go on a course to learn how not to make a mess.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I do like sharing what I know. The hard bit is working out what to do next. I do want to take the myth out of pattern making. I find most patterns really easy. So easy I never keep patterns I bin them and just redo them when I want to make things. I did do a simple notebook cover video. This showed a simple pattern. I might do a tote bag next again showing how I do the patterns.

This is a video where I show how to hide the thread when you stitch the opposite side of a strap. Some people call it a Hermes turn https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kve8GE3zZnY

I agree tinker. If you want to do leather as a hobby then enjoy it in anyway you can. If you want to do this as a job then you have to dump all the unnecessary picking up of tools. The beauty of working with leather is the enjoyment for beginners to professionals. I have watched a few youtube videos where you have to wait ten minutes for the guy to talk about anything before he gets to what you want to know. It could be they have the brains to think about it before they shoot there video. I aint got the brains for that. when I do a video it is normally I found 5 minutes so I turn on the camera then let my mouth do the work.

Soccer I forgot to show the back. However I am uploading a video at the moment if you pause it you will see the back on that. The video I am uploading shows you how to hide your stitch when you cross over to the other side. My stitching is ok its not great . I teach leather work however I have a wife that can stitch a buckle with a loop in under 2 minutes so no need for me to spend the time doing it. Tinker well spotted. It is really hard to do something against the grain when you have been doing it 30 years. My biggest problem is I can not slow down. You can see in all my videos I still go fast but that is me trying to slow for the video. I was a piece work saddle maker . If you look at my how to make a hand bag in 6 minutes video that will be close to my normal pace. King thanks for taking the time to comment. I am uploading a few more videos on youtube this week. If I had good internet they would all be up now.

My work bench is way tidier than that. I think it might be something to do with me teaching on Monday lol. Its not until you tidy your board you realise how much rubbish is on it. -

Yes it's a hook stud however I have never had to use a special clamp to stitch them. In the factories I have worked in all the hand stitches stich them in normal clamps

Welcome to the forums. You will find them useful. People on here do like to give advice

Harness is thicker and stronger. Harness is dipped in hot grease towards the end of the finish to give it strength and keep it flexible. I would use bridle for a case.

A Little Introduction Of Myself And A Couple Of Questions.
gmace99 replied to howitzergun's topic in Getting Started
Yes I know of David he had a good reputation. His methods are different from mine. He is what we call a country saddler. The way he teaches flocking is the way they do it in the country . My methods are much faster and the way they make it in Walsall the original way the saddle was made. Faster does not mean you loose the quality . I have won awards in London for saddle making. Again David has a great reputation. And is a very skilled man. You will find in time you will learn your own technique. I have taught all over the world and although I show people my way sometimes you go back to see them and they have adapted to a way that suits themselves. -
A Little Introduction Of Myself And A Couple Of Questions.

Just read your post . Well done on reflocking the kiefer.i am a saddle maker ant a international leatherwork instructor. Www.uksaddlery.com . I can flock a panel in 15 minutes the whole job in under a hour. Speed comes with making 5/6 saddles a week for to many years to remember. Kiefer is not the easiest saddle to take apart and flock so well done to you for doing it. If you type uksaddlery into YouTube you will come to my videos. I have some on there on how to make the saddle seat and some other bits. The quality of the video is not great as I did them years ago. However I have a new camcorder and aim to do new videos. I hope the videos help a bit -

It reall depends on the buckle size

Look up uksaddlery. I just uploaded a simple note book cover. The video is in3 parts because it took six hours to upload each one

Nice job you should put the hole and the staple in it to put your stirrup leather. The job is way easier when you strap it to a bench and put your foot in the stirrup. Can't seeme making a set as I have about 30 of them in my school. Again great job well done

I was a shoe repairer about 30 years ago. We used a glue that I can not remember the name. We used the glue and let it dry completely . Then we put it under heat lamps to reactivate it we then pressed the two items together you could not pull them apart
