I am also new at this and have a question, I put my holster in the oven to dry but it did not come out as hard as I would have liked it to. How do you get the holster to dry rock hard ?

Im am new a leather work and want to make CCW holsters I just got my first samples from Wickett & Craig and Im looking at there skirting and harness leather already dyed in black. Can this leather be used for holsters ? I see most use Oak and Im wondering why . I guess what Im asking is what is the difference between leathers like Skirting , Eng Bridal , Latigo, Herman Oak ? I really like the look of the black skirting in my samples, I would love to buy a piece and try a holster with it .

Nigel , the videos are great, Im an absolute beginer in the process of buying my first sewing machine but I think its absolutly necessary for me to know how to handstitch as well. Before watching the video I had no idea how hand stitching was done . Thank you very much !

Thank you for the Welcome , Kate that is perfect , Im soaking up as much information as I can . I dont have any hands on experience and have a lot to learn. I really appreciate the video and Im definitly going to attend the leatherworker's guild. My mind is going a hundred miles an hour with reading about machines, tools Im going to need, Im just reading everything . I am very anxious to get started on something. Im not getting my hopes up that Im going to be making anything sellable right off the bat but I am confident that in time Im going to be good at leather work.

I have been lurking around for a while before I finally joined up a week ago , I have been reading everything I can here , but still have questions. I would like to meet someone in my area who can show me the basics .I have so much to learn that I dont know where to start , and how do I even know if Im going to be good at making holsters or anything else for that matter ?

Hello everyone, I just registered here today. I have always been interested in leather products , Im hoping to learn a lot here and would like to eventually make a few holsters . Would love to be able to make holsters to earn some extra income to support my gun habbit after I retire in another 15 years . .
