  1. Thanks Bob! I may have not been clear.. But the foot lift is fine, don't really need a knee lift.. If you look at that pic the foot lift bar isn't attached to the lever that works the presser foot, and that's the rub.. How is the foot pedal bar supposed to attach to the lever that works the actual machine foot?
  2. Hey everyone, I just got this new to me Consew 226. super psyched about having this hoss.. I had to take it apart a bit to get it back to my shop, and now I'm hooking the presser foot lift back up and running into an issue. Check out the attached pic where I tried to point everything out. But basically its not hooking in right. That vertical bar coming up from the bottom is what is attached to my foot pedal. It somehow attaches to the lever that lifts the walking foot and that's my issue. I'm not 100% sure how it should attach. I think it should somehow attach to that piece on the body, but its on the wrong side. What would be really great is if someone out there with a 226 would just take a pic of theirs and I could go from there.. Thanks! Todd
  3. Ken.. You have no idea how you've changed my life... In summary.. I purchased some templates that were off kilter.. Then I went and bought not one but two English point strap punches.and for the last three days I've been blasting away at some straps all to no avail. I was literally about to give up and just give in to never cutting an english strap end.. Then I come upon your very simple explination.. Find the center and use a circle to the edge of the strap.. I go out to the garage, put a new exacto blade in, pick up ANOTHER strap and no s#|+++ it worked!!!! Out of all the tools I have, this simple idea worked... Ken you are a saint. Thank you much! Todd
  4. wow.. did someone ever snap this one up? if not I'll take it!!
  5. well just pm'd too! looking for a decent machine that won't break the bank!!
  6. Shoot.. its even doing it with just canvas.. yep I'm taking it back to the shop.. shoot
  7. Hmm, good idea.. Ok let me go try that.. I have noticed the needle tension doesn't really get that strong.. Hmm I wonder.. Ok, let me go try!
  8. Hi Ya'll! I just got a Singer 15-91 and I HOPE I didn't make a mistake.. I'm wanting to sew some bags and such, but I just had it serviced, its in great working condition, and I have a leather needle on it. But for the life of me I can't get what I THINK is the tension right.. The top/needle stitching looks great, the bottom/bobbin stitching looks horrible and loose.. I've tried adjusting the tension to no end.. All the way tight for the needle and bobbin.. Then all the way loose for both.. and to no real effect.. I even tried to roughly match the tension of the needle and bobbin, and still nothing.. Any help is much appreciated.. Thanks Todd
  9. Yea that is super nice.. How did you do the handle? I like the ends being wider than the strap so it tapers down.. very nice..
  10. Another question on cutting the strap and punching the holes.. Did you use a die and a press or actually cut the strap yourself and then use a punch and hammer for the ends and holes? I just got a die made and I don't know if it was the maker or just an issue with dies in general, but the strap holes were horrible..The ends were nice though.. They only other option is to just cut the strap and punch the holes myself.. just toying around with ideas.. Thanks Todd
  11. Awesome.. good point on the back to back rolled edges.. and awesome instructions on how to actually roll the round edge.. just for anyone elses sake I'll try and do it and take some pics too.. thanks everyone..
  12. i haven't tried that yet.. no cuts? just wet it down and crinkle it up a bit and roll the edge.. I'll try that..
  13. Really? think a burnished edge is cleaner than a rolled one? anyway.. back to the original question of rolling an edge around a round corner.. any tips or tricks on how to do it well??
  14. Thank you for the lesson! One question I'm trying to track down is that rounded corner.. How do you edge roll the leather around a round corner? Thanks
  15. There is just something I'm missing.. I've tried making two cuts in the corner and folding the two sides over but that leaves cuts on the outside edge.. Then I've tried doing a sort of accordion thing around the edge but I can't make a consistent corner that way.. Sort of like this. How can I roll the edges of approx. 4oz. Chrome tan around a rounded corner.. To make it look somewhat like the bottom edges here http://makr.com/round-wallet-navy-matte Thanks for the help Todd
  16. Hello! This is actually my first post, but I've been patrolling for awhile, so I wanted to help.. I was in this same situation about hand stitching and what size thread.. I started with the waxed and bonded stuff from Tandy, and a 4mm pricking iron but felt like it was too thick.. I went to threadexchange.com and read up.. and now I use a 2mm pricking iron with 207 bonded nylon thread. And then just hand wax it myself by running it through a cake a beeswax & parafin that I made myself. It works well, and it looks more modern/finished.. At least in my opinion.. Hope this helps! Todd
