  1. When I had to use Ecoflo, wetting the leather worked best for me.....there was no dampening, I got it good and wet with a spray bottle. With oil based, I've done this also, but the color is going to turn out darker, that's the only ill effect I got, and it's what I was after at the time.
  2. Looks purdy....I like it....I think I would like it even more if there was a row of stitching along the profile of the gun. (just me)
  3. Put me on the list ! Anyone have a PPS I can "borrow"?
  4. I used a blue gun to make a holster for that same Kimber, I just shortened the pouch to fit. A word of caution, don't make the fit so close.....the front sight on the Kimber is larger than the one on my 1911 blue gun and won't go in if you try making it very tight....ask me how I know.
  5. Marlon, you once made a post that made the light bulb go on for me...you said something to the effect...be consistent when hand stitching, same angle of the stab, front side needle in first, etc.....I've found that tip to be most effective. It's a good way to get into a rhythm, which makes for nice clean uniformed stitching.
  6. Monica, I like your work...about your Cobra machine....did you do all the work in your avatar, and your web site on it?

  7. Another awl and saddle stitch guy here....my advise is get a good awl, I didn't know how heavenly one could be til I got me a Bob Douglas. When I have to go through 4 or more layers of 8oz. I make "pilot holes" with a 3/64" drill bit in a drill press. Then use the awl as I stitch, the awl actually stretches the hole to the right size and shape for stitching.
  8. I bought a bottle of Angelus tan once and it turned out bright orange!
  9. I like it LOTS....good job. If I may offer just a little advise, concentrate on stabbing at the same angle with the awl, like this / / / / / / / / / /......that will really clean up the stitch line. I wish I had your patience for carving.
  10. Busted seems to know way more than I do about it (thanks Busted)....and yes, it does have a bobbin winder. The pressure on the foot pedal can slow it down/ speed it up, and it's one of the things I haven't mastered....I'm not sure what speed it is rated at. Bondo, you're only an hour from here, you're welcomed to come over to try it out.
  11. Barbed Wire....it's a good machine, I guess I just don't have the patience to master it. We just don't get along. I have messed up several projects after stamping, dying, etc....then to have the machine get away from me, stitching jumps the groove. another piece for the scrap bin. Just too frustrating for me, and I feel I have so much more control by hand-stitching. Since I'm more of a hobby guy, I'm not all that concerned with getting lots done fast Again, it's not the machine, just pilot error.....after error..... Bondo, the throat actually measures 10 1/2", and it's dog feed only.
  12. Still here....I haven't been very aggressive about selling it, but I am now.......looking for best offer....thanks!!
  13. If you haven't applied a finish yet, I would still do it. You may end up with a darker shade of what the color is supposed to be, but it will be more even.
  14. Did you wet the leather good prior to using EcoFlo?....I had pretty good results that way, but I avoid it if I can.
  15. Here's one I just completed, wet molded the front side first, then stitched it to the back panel. In this case, the front part is 5-6oz. the back is 8-9oz.

The catalog they sent me says "Retail Hardware Supply Catalog No. 8", and pricing is listed along the description of each item. I don't think there is a min. requirement. But I've been wrong before.

Hey thanks, I just called for a catalog!
  19. You make him holster(s), he pays you for it....whats so odd about that?
  20. That design looks to be more practical for field use....I think I will pursue that one...thanks Haystacker!!
  21. I have a request to make a rig similar to this one. The owner of the .357 revolver with 5 1/2" barrel, feels it's too heavy, thus uncomfortable on a belt while hunting/camping, etc. so wants a shoulder rig. Any experience making or wearing the one in the picture? I see that this style is made by several manyfacturers. Any other ideas will be welcomed, and of course, pictures are always helpful. Thanks!!
  22. Twin...unlike yourself.....I'm not saying K-man is wrong, I'm just saying I disagree. Big difference. Rg
