Fine fine workmanship....now show us the belt that matches and we'll let you out early on good behavior. -

Kinda funny, but true story. I went to a nearby industrial sewing machine retailer and asked him how I could eliminate the ugly marks on the back of my work...... "can you help me get rid of this?" He said "Sure I can" "oh yeah? how?? "buy that machine" as he points to a REAL stitching machine. Short story longer....he then explains to me why the machine I was trying to use was not the right kind of machine for the work I was trying to do on it......and showed me that the new machine he was pointing at is. While the machine I had was rated to sew through 1/2" of material, (it could sew through 1/2" of veg tan) it was really meant to sew thru material that does not mark....canvass, webbing, etc....... Live and learn....again......I hope to pick up that new machine this week:thumbsup:

After 10 years of hand stitching, I'm planning on buying a stitching machine this week. But I know there will always be a need to hand stitch some projects, so it's important to know how, and to have the proper tools. Until now, I have been unwilling/unable to spend the $$ to buy a good machine....plus a little intimidated with the thought of learning to use one. But I see now that it's the only way to up my production to the level I want to get to.......and not compromise the quality. I figure if so many others can do it....so can I.

Just a word of caution about them......be careful if they will be used on some "working" gear, IMO they are meant for decoration/novelty. They will fall off, come apart if they are banged up, or crawled around on....ask me how I know. I even epoxy-ed the parts together, and still could not stand the time test.......just a heads-up.

Show Me Your Hot Box
Rayban replied to BigRiverLeather's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I just set this up last week, and I'm using it every day...and it sure is speeding up my production. In the summer months I can just leave the work on the window sill for a while....in the Michigan winters, not so easy. This works great......$12 space heater from Lowes......little dish rack that she still hasn't missed.....and the box to let the warm air whip around in.... -
Would like some opinions of this press...it's sold by a local company, and looks like the one sold at HF which I'm trying to avoid. What do you all think...is it suitable to use as a holster press? http://toledo.craigslist.org/tls/2172057818.html

Got Another One Done!
Rayban replied to mntnbkr1968's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
No Master here, but just want to comment on your nice looking holster...great looking 1911 too! They complement each other very well. Only thing I can see that could make it look just a wee bit better (IMO) is to have more of the trigger guard covered, just enough so that the back of the inside of the holster would not show like it does. Also, this style of holster is a good candidate for a lining of some sort. Keep up the good work! -
K-Man...would you have this one...or one "close enough" to sell? http://springfield-armory.com/xd.php?version=69 Could I also see the list of ones you have available? Thanks!!

Busted...since you are very familiar with my Mercury M-120, I was wondering if you could help me with something. The btm feed dog leaves very ugly marks on the leather. in fact it pretty much tears it up. I've tried taking some of the sharp points off of them, but I've been afraid to go too far with them, for fear they will not work at all.
If I could eliminated this problem I may ...

Thread Questions
Rayban replied to PHIPPS CRAFTED LEATHER's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks for this lead...for hand-stitching thread, looks like I can get twice as much, for half as much as I've been paying at my local supply store! -

I watched the Boss video, which follows the instruction manual. where they addressed the tension combination deal that has to be adjusted for thickness/stitches per inch. The specs say it can do from 4 spi to 16....so there's a 6 spi in there somewhere!! -

I believe the stitching should be done in black in the first place. White thread against black makes it look like.......well, like you didn't have any black thread, so white will have to do......just a peeve of mine.......good, got that behind me......... Speaking of stitching...I count 7 stitches along the belt slot which I'm assuming is 1-1/2"(?)........I hand stitch at 6 spi........can the Boss do 6 spi? I ask because I'm seriously considering buying a Boss. -

Is there any specific criteria for a badge holder? Does it have to be designed so that the badge is easily detachable? The only thing I can think of (for now) would make it pretty permanent in the carrier: Stitch a belt clip to the round panel, place badge on front, then stitch the front "round window" to the panel. Follow? Rg
