Is there a Tandy store nearby? Even if it's a couple hour drive away, it would be well worth the trip for you. Out local store offers free lessons for beginners, and of course, could fix you up with all the tools and leather you would need.

This is one of those questions that if you line up 12 people, you'll get 12 different answers. I do mostly smaller sized projects, belts, holsters, knife sheaths, etc.....When I'm about ready to start stamping, I hold the leather under running water till both sides are wet....not soaked, just wet.....let access water run off then set it on the table to dry out just a little....there's a fine line about how dry it should be before starting to stamp....but it is almost back to dry looking b4 I start...then I continue to keep the leather damp with a wet towel as I work...... You'll hear/read about "casing" leather, meaning to soak it then store it in a plastic bag for a certain amount of time b4 working with it....never done that so can't speak to it much. I just do what works for me and my situation. One thing for sure....you can't stamp when the leather is soaking/spongy wet, nor when it's too dry......got to "hit it" when it's at the stage of drying out that suites you and when you get the result you like....that comes with time in.

Definitely stamp, then dye......lately I've been dyeing while the work is still wet from stamping...the wet leather means the pores are opened some for better dye penetration....works for me anywayz.

TEST B......OK, I got it now...I was trying to figure out how to make the attachment a thumbnail instead of a big ole picture......and I done it!!

TEST....

No, I used a dobber.

It's Wickett and Craig 8-10 oz with Fiebings light brown oil dye. I used the same on the belt, a thicker strap from Tandy and it turned out much darker. Again, customer loved it.

The customer pretty much designed this one, I just followed instructions like a good boy. The blue gun was for a 3" barrel, and I mathematically/scientifically/guesstimated for a 6"......and it works!! Customer is happy so I am too.

I think it's best you start another thread for that BS.

I'm sure I could make EF work for me if I had to, but fortunetly, I have better options at my disposal -

I tried Eco Flo one time and that was it....but I won't give up on Tandy.....I switched to the Feibings Professional Oil Dye they sell and I'm really liking it......I still miss the Pro Dye I used to get there tho..... -
Noah....would Chicago screws work for your application? I use them instead of the snaps to fasten the buckle in place. Also....I think you are under estimating the rapid rivets.....they do come in a couple different sizes. If you would take a couple small pieces of leather and fasten them together with a couple rapid rivets, you would be surprised at what it takes to destroy the bond. It usually takes me a drill and pliers.

What size are those larger square ones in the top row?

Problem burnishing belt edges
Rayban replied to ABC3's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I have noticed lately that if I do my burnishing just after I edge dye, with the dye only about 50% dry, I get better results and faster, than if I let the edges dry, then moisten to burnish. Nothing new here, I'm sure, but new to me, and I'm very pleased with my "finding". -
David, here's one that should show you how simple it can be to make.....don't need no stinkin pattern! Just build it around your card. Need 4 pieces, outer layer, inner liner (optional) and 2 pockets. This one is a Bruce Johnson model, I carry it daily. His stamping/carving is inspirational.

Petcha, cool idea, I look forward to seeing pictures of your work. A friend of mine has made knife sheaths using leather from old cowboy boots...not the best craftsman, but they held his knives so he was happy.

....yep...just like those with the Bambi Syndrome when it's time for an organized deer kill to thin the herd....

I would side with Richard Koehler.

Charlie, I took delivery on mine yesterday. I haven't played around with it much cept to take this picture. I think I'll replace the lights with some that are a bit stronger......a flash is still needed with these but that's not all bad. The reflecting walls bounce the flash real good for a nice even light. I really like how it breaks down, folds up and stores away in it's "handsome carrying case"

Tim, looks very good....was it intended for left side carry?
