  1. Hi everyone! Need any advice I can get. I am making this bag for a gentleman and he wants a false buckle. I have attached photos of what I am working with. two straps (one on each side) that have a buckle attached but a magnet underneath that is what closes the bag. The buckle is just for looks which is what he asked for. The magnet underneath magnetizes to the spiked studs. But after doingt his I realized that once he holds the handle that it will open and the magnets will not be strong enough to bear the weight. What is my solution here? Open to ideas but really would rather not place any plastic hardware on this bag, if possible. Thank you for your help!!!!
  2. Great job on the bag. I am working on bag #8 right now. Had to finally take the plunge and teach myself. I LOVE it! Keep up the great work =)
  3. Looking to bring on a Team Member in Los Angeles Area. My shop is located in San Pedro, Ca at a shop behind my house. I hand craft leather belts, men's leather bags, and other products within certain niches. I am not looking to hire an employee. I am looking to bring in a TEAM MEMBER with passion that is willing to grow with my business. I don't care what your skills are. I am looking for someone with passion, curiosity, loyalty, work ethic and that is fearless in the taking on the world with me. I started my business because I couldn't find a job and few would hire because I didn't have a college degree. So I am going to hire the opposite way. I am looking for integrity and values as opposed to education. If you are hungry to learn skills in leather and if you have a business acumen, that is a plus. But not necessary. I will train you to become a fierce leather craftsman and business person. This position is one where I am looking for my future VP. It is an entry position but if you want to join a young business and work with someone who cares, then send me a PM. I will demand hard work and it won't be a cake walk. But this is a great business and you will go far with me if you show you've got heart. The only thing I ask is that you have transportation, a cell phone (ideally), and a great attitude. If you are open and curious then you will go far in both life and with my business. If you want o know more about my business, just visit ThompsonTacticalbelts.com. Send me a message of who you are and your life background, if you are interested. All immigrants are always welcome and encouraged to apply. Thanks!
  4. All very good points. I think Boriqua hit the nail on the head. I am obsessive about answering very fast and so I was emailing throughout the day to answer emails. Not the most efficient thing ever. My business is actually very well known for its customer service. Its not that I don't want to. Its that I believe there is a better way and a solution to this. Again, I think I am looking at this from an angle of maximum efficiency. That is what software is designed to do. To make peoples lives less stressful (although sometimes it has the opposite effect, obviously). CRM, accounting software, and other online management tools are just a few examples. These tools are designed (I know I'm preaching, sorry) to eliminate stress, save time, and spare you from having to pay employees from surfing Facebook or Amazon while waiting for an email or phone call to come in, etc. That's kind of my angle. But you guys are right. I need to hire a team, but I am terrified to do that. I will start another thread on that because I am ready to hire. Thanks everyone!
  5. I agree Alex. I guess I am also coming at this from the angle of productivity. It causes less stress on us as business owners and we can use that time that we update, to work on orders--->which leads to happier customers. All valid point you made. Thank you!
  6. Thanks for the great ideas! I do give updates and rarely ship late but it kills productivity. My thinking is that I wanted to see if others (like you) had the same frustrations as me. I am considering software where my customer can login and see status and estimated ship date. The will also receive automated email updates about their order. My idea is to have pre-drafted emails telling them what stage their product is in. I can update as necessary and customer can interact directly with that. It takes a lot of time out of my build schedule to email because I am the type to make sure I always respond and do it fast. You guys how that is. Sooooo...I want to Beta test this software and use it for myself. If others are interested, then maybe I can offer it to people to save on time, stress and give the customers a more pleasant experience. Also, I have not seen any such software anywhere based on my research. The software out there is primarily designed for restaurants and hostesses to handle guests and their minimal wait times. Any feedback on this is welcome so if and when I pull the trigger, I would know what the community of crafters wants and needs me to build into this software. Thanks!
  7. Price has been lowered to $3500. That is $1000 less than what I paid. Thanks! 310-982-3290
  8. Hi everyone, Because I do custom orders for my belts, I have a 10 week wait time. This causes lots of customers to constantly ask me throughout the process (several times before estimated time has been reached) to ask for updates on where they are on the list? I understand people are excited, but how do you address this? Do you have a wait time and if so, what is it? Do you also have this problem and how do you deal with it? Your help would be great to hear! Thanks!
  9. Thanks Dan! I agree! We want to leave within next few years. This state is very anti-business! Thanks for the tips and I agree. I will post on what I decide. Thanks for taking the time to respond =)
  10. Hi fellow Leather Crafters! I live in Los Angeles and since this is a major fashion hub I am thinking of starting a leather craft school. I have a passion for teaching and obviously for leather craft, but was wondering if anyone has experience on whether this is profitable and feasible? I'm thinking that because of my location, I can do it but looking for feedback or experience from those have done this or are currently offering classes. Thoughts?
  11. Boss Laser LS1416 that has roughly 20-30 hours on it. Bought this Laser Brand New from Boss Laser about 5 months aga. Included is the upgraded 60 Watt bulb (Standard for LS 1416 is 40Watt Bulb. The 60 Watt bulb this machine has, will allow you more power to engrave deeper if you choose and more materials with ease. This bulb upgrade cost me $249) and the stand ($97). Also includes vent pipes, blower, compressor, LaserWorks8 software. This machine is Like new with very little time on it. Everything is included and I am happy to give you one hour of Free Training with the sale of this Laser. I originally bought this for my leather belt shop and it is a GREAT machine, works perfectly. I just have too much volume coming out of my shop to offer engraving any more. Also, need money to open a retail store.H ence, I am parting ways for now. Price is $3,995. No trades please. The 60 Watt power in bulb and stand are extras that with the price. Visit https://www.bosslaser.com/boss-ls-1416.html to see this machine new. (You get $344 worth of extras plus you don't pay shipping from Florida (Boss Laser Warehouse) and Free 1 hour Instruction by me) If you want a powerful and reliable laser that can do anything like wood, leather, glass, plastic, paper, (some metals) then this is your machine. (See sample photos of my leather engravings that this exact machine has done). This is a perfect starter engraving machine that is accurate and in absolutely great condition. Also, Boss Laser is known for their great customer phone support which is still included. It can engrave an area of 14" X 16" and if you have long pieces then there are doors to pass your material through. I make leather belt so I use this option a lot. The machine has also been very well cared for and maintenance performed meticulously. YOU PICKUP or You can coordinate shipping with Carrier. I can help load the laser but will not be able to crate this for you. I recommend going on uship.com and finding someone to transport it to you inside of an enclosed trailer. 13. I have an old 110V electric belt press that I purchased from landis International in Canada. I repainted it, oiled it and placed the decals on it. Works great and very powerful. This machine will punch belt or strap holes and the tip in one punch. Comes with old die that needs to be replaced or repaired. 3-4 of the belt punch holes are missing. Very strong and rare model that I believe was made by a company called Conseco. Price is $1900 Please message me if seriously interested. You must pickup at my shop in zip code 90731 located in Los Angeles, Ca area.
  14. Landis Belt Press that I bought in Canada directly from Landis factory and I refurbished it cosmetically. This machine is 110V electric and will punch all belt holes and tip of belt with ease. The current die is the original and comes with the sale but this machine needs a new die made. Everything works great, but again, the die needs replacing which you can have made by Campbell-Randall for $350-$400. Motor is very strong, has fresh paint and oiled well. This is a very rare machine and I have never found one like it. Used in my belt shop but need to make room in shop for bigger equipment. Foot pedal and hand operation methods (they are interlinked so operate as you choose. Asking $3800. Must pick up or YOU arrange for it to be picked up. I can crate to for you for $200. This is a rare and reliable piece of machinery for your leather shop. Don't let it pass you by. Questions? Please reply to post thanks! My zip code is 90731 which is where this machine is located.
  15. Here is an old belt press that I picked up from Landis International in Canada. Works great, but needed a fresh coat of paint. I am still working on painting it, but this is what it looks like so far! Thoughts? I am in need of a good die maker since I will need to customize them to my needs. Any die makers you are of other than Texas Custom Dies? I emailed them and am waiting on a call back.
  16. Hi sinpac! How does this skive? I saw this same Model 30 in great shape on craigslist and I am considering picking it up. Happy with the performance? I need to skive some 13 oz skirting down to an 8 or 9oz. please advise if you can. Your machine looks great!
  17. Yes. you are pushing too hard. Let the machine do the work and do not control it or push. Just guide thats it. When needles break thats a clear indication on this Landis. Be very careful with this. Im not a safety sally but a boot maker on youtube was talking about this in a video and she caught shrapnel to the throat.
