  1. Another really nice piece. Looks great! The floral doesn't really go with the 1911 to me but hey a lot of people think I have weird taste. Beautiful holster though JLS.
  2. Very nice. What stain/antique did you use? I love the color. Looks really rich.
  3. I always mark my first side with my wing dividers but eyeball the second so that I can make adjustments better. It just seems to work better for me that way. Especially on curves.
  4. I second kevinp's answer but not just sharp knives....QUALITY tools of all kinds and remember when you think they are sharp enough sharpen them some more.
  5. Finally got tired of bending and breaking el cheapo stamps and ordered a few Barry King stamps the other day. I'm just getting started good with this but I've welded and worked with wood for many years and have learned the value of quality tools. What amazed me was how much easier it was to run these stamps compared to the cheap stuff. There is certainly no turning back now its good stuff or nothing. By the way the clarity and detail of the imprint alone is worth every penny!
  6. I want to give Tim at SX Industries (formerly Timco) a huge THANK YOU! He had a great selection of bullet snap caps that were easily used as conchos on a belt for a birthday present. I spoke to him on Monday of last week and had hardware in hand on Friday. Can't beat that with a stick! The snap caps looked great and you certainly couldn't beat the prices. Too bad the birthday girl picked up her belt before I could get pictures. I also want to thank LW for giving all of us "amateurs" a place to learn and make contact with others in the industry. Once again KUDOS to TIMCO now SX for great customer service!
  7. Thanks Camano Ridge. That may be what I have to do. How do they hold up? Do you leave the spent primers in and do they ever work loose?
  8. I'm trying to find conchos made from or made to look like 45 ACP or 45 Long Colt shell casings (the head with primer). I need them for a special request on a belt. Anyone have any ideas?
  9. I'm not a great photographer Randy but here are a few more. There were some things I did, like the rear latigo keepers because I don't like regular billets on a roping saddle. I feel like I get better adjustment with the full tie strap. I also put small d rings on the back conchos because it does occasionally double as a trail saddle.
  10. This is my first saddle build. A calf roper on a Timberline TM Roper tree That I built for myself. A friend who is a saddle maker mentored me in the process. About to start my second one that will be a ranch saddle but I thought I'd put this one out there for a little critique. I works great in the roping pen and my horse loves it. My backside does too.
