Is There A Way To Clean Dirt Off Veg Tan?
JerseyFirefighter replied to JerseyFirefighter's topic in How Do I Do That?
No stitching no lining. Used my press to emboss some stamps and I must have gotten my hand dirty on the press. No lining or stitching. Just conditioning and finish coat left. Truth be told it may be either a grease or rub off from black latigo :/ -
So I got a little shop crud on my unfinished strap and was wondering if there was any product or method I can use to clean it. It hasnt heen sealed. Just hate to have to waste a strap. Color was supposed to remain natural. Thanks in advance. http://imgur.com/U7rSrxe

Looks good. Any other specs? Leather weight used? It looks like two pieces flipped grain side on both sides and sewn up. I want to make one of my own but I am toiling between liner material or just grain ends.

Haven't seen this in a search and im sure some of you fd leather workers have come across this issue. Looking to see if they make a matching 1" 3d stamp set to match Craftool's 8132 Alphabet set. Heck id take 1" anything as i cant see how 1" letters and 3/4" numbers would look right. Thank you in advance I appreciate it.

The pics seem spot on. Yes they are for 1 1/2" wide straps. Im going to give them a go and see how close, if not identical they are. Thank you

They're 1.5" Ive been meaning to get a catalog from them. I get overwhelmed with their pdf version. Always hear great things about OTB but have yet to order from them.

I would love nothing more than the awesome folk here to help me find these buckles. My supplier said that she is no longer stocking these and have become cost prohibitive and even harder to acquire. I absolutely love these buckles and would continue to buy in bulk to continue to use these. Any thoughts?

I would have liked the squared stamps for centering rather than the circular ones you find from other vendors. Any other FD stamps as I have most of those.

Im looking to make my first Firefighter Truck Belt as well as a lifting belt and was wondering where I may find some of this more serious hardware. I am looking for drop forged steel to use for the truck belt. I would like the option between a single or double locking snap hook as well as a triangle adjuster buckle. Id also be looking for a large O ring 3 or 4" in Stainless or Brass as an axe holder. If any of you firefighter brothers are chiming in, if you happen to have a source for those quick release seatbelt attachments for light boxes that would be great as well. As for the lifting belt, I guess im just looking for a 3" double roller buckle in brass or plated chrome. Im sure I can figure out the rest as far as grommets go. Thank you. Here are some samples of the hardware I was looking for.

And here I thought you may be a fellow jersey resident.

Best Way To Store Leather
JerseyFirefighter replied to craftsman827's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Curios as to this as well. I know I receive SLC's leather flesh side out, however RJF sends flesh side in. Then again the first is veg tanned and the second is latigo. -
I bought this shop light from Amazon. SUPER BRIGHT. and plugs into existing outlet. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UTX4HJS?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00

Just happened to buy a few from them over the past week and noticed they had a good majority of similar items.

Seriously... I asked for them to draw a cow on the box for my last delivery of sides and hardware AND THEY DIDNT!. I would have loved a nice moo cow on my box .. Love Springfield anyway.

I really enjoy the ones you have in the store. Pretty darn cool. I have my eyes set on an engraver/cnc/printer sometime by years end... As if I need another hobby :D Do you sell on ebay under "awlivers"?

Cutting Leather Forms With A Press Cutter?
JerseyFirefighter replied to Benjalatte's topic in How Do I Do That?
I am absurdly jealous at his organizational abilities. That thread drawer... -
Thoroughbred leather carries 15-17 harness and 13-15oz bridle. Email contact is markcoxon01@gmail.com The harness is $220 a side and the Bridle is 8.85 a sq ft. (1 side minimum order)

I have a huge hardware problem. From conchos to chicago screws, to rivets and buckles of all different finishes and sizes. I've seen some storage ideas but I guess cracking open 3-4 part storage cases or dropping 150-200 on an organizer is just a little lower on my priority list when im constantly tool shopping. Priorities I guess. One day. Im fixing to find one of those steel multi-drawer hardware organizers.

He glues multiple pieces together that arent always square and flush. Then he trims the two pieces so they are square. That will give you an even edge to groove off of.

For what little input I can give, when I round belt ends with a groover I try my best to keep the groover at the same perpendicular angle as I round the corner. The slightest deviation gives it that difference in a nice smooth rounded edge bevel.

They see moderate use. I cook at home and take them occasionally to the firehouse as im the chef on the shift. Since im not using them 8-12 hours I can take the time to care for them properly. After all the prep work is done the first thing I do is wash/dry them and put them back in their place. After years of having dull cheap knives I will never go back after getting edges like these.
