  1. Funny I saw this today. There has been a few since I started, however the one I have now is VERY persistent. He's asked 4 times since his order. I try to keep those responses short and sweet during pre-production.. I check the order queue and say something to the effect of "Your order is currently on schedule and will be delivered within the stated time frame" If he/she asks while the strap is in production, i'll snap off a quick pic and send it to them to satiate their curiosity. Etsy and mobile phones make is really easy to just reply to their conversation with a photo followup. My lead time is a solid 3-4 weeks regardless of volume. If I knock out their item in a week instead of 3-4, then I look all the better for taking care of them and getting their stuff MUCH faster than I usually do. As I get busier, I expand my time frame up to 2 weeks. Beyond that the prices go up until I catch up. I agree with what others have stated.. it's just customer service. We are a society of NOW. where amazon prime gets you whatever you want in 2 days or less. Some people just cant grasp the concept of made to order items, even if you clearly stated your lead time in bold letters. Best of luck with the customer section. I hope they get a kick out of it.
  2. Agreed. Buying my machine was a great experience. Chris took the time to teach this greenhorn the whole machine from front to back. (like 2 hours) Just got a 10 pk of bobbins for my workhorse. Too many colors
  3. Ahhh so that is Chris's mother. Such a sweet lady. Just needs to call me back lol
  4. Outstanding. Thank you for the encouragement and link. Eager to give one a go. By the way, that stitch groover has some serious bite to it. Brand?
  5. Awesome work. I REALLY wish I could take up tooling but every time im in the shop im trying to play catch up with orders. I keep saying to myself that I will bring some tooling stuff to the station one day and mess around on shift. Yet here I am, ordering more hardware and trying to tie up business ends in my down time. (and surfing here of course) Keep up the great work. One day I will get into tooling.. just not today.
  6. Looking for a source to buy a few bobbins for my ferdco 2000. I see a wild variation of prices on the net so I was wondering where you guys and gals get them from. I have so many colors I find myself stripping the bobbin with the least thread on it to switch colors. Thank you in advance.
  7. "If a more finished look is desired you can buff off the excess with a towel. You can also apply color shoe polish right over the Sno-Seal" http://www.atsko.com/sno-seal-application-tips-and-instructions/ Hope this helps. Ive never used sno seal but I wanted an excuse to show you my TARDIS stamp
  8. I agree. While tech is a beautiful thing, scrolling through a 300+ page pdf if not one of those benefits
  9. I believe there are tensile strength differences between the two, however unless you are making life safety equipment you should need not worry of the differences in strength.
  10. Looks awesome. I need to start tooling. Im missing so many amazing things like this in my life.
  11. I noticed it as well when reviewing the photos. Those pics were at Keystone when I purchased the machine. I took a few pics as a reminder how to thread the thing once I got it back. If I have time today or tomorrow, I will try to get a better pic of the needle guide.
  12. I use copper rivets for my radio straps. Stainless steel and solid brass with plating is also a good option. They also sell brass rivets and burrs which work well to compliment brass hardware projects.
  13. Here's an album of a few shots I took. Let me know if you want to see anything specifically. http://imgur.com/a/aSMO8
  14. Either from Ohio Travel Bag or Springfield Leather (tandy brand). Ive learned a really hard lesson in trying to buy etsy or ebay screws in bulk. There is a very noticeable comparison in quality. As much as the hardware gives me sticker shock, I know they will look good, and they will last. Dont cheap out on hardware!
  15. That is the one thing that drives me nuts is their website. Aside from the tiny little arrow to go to your cart, it seems like their web designer could have done a better job organizing and making searching a bit easier than what is currently in place. I like SLC. I've spent enough money there to know I should also buy from other places every now and then (W&C, RJF, etc) They are convenient so they remain another resource in the toolbox and not the end all be all for my supply purchases.
  16. I've had my pro 2000 from Keystone for a few months now. I'd be happy to provide any photos or videos. I have zero experience with the cobra's or cowboy's so I could not provide an accurate comparison. It sews well when dialed in for the thickness I am using, however I am still a novice in general with sewing so it would be disingenuous to give a much more in depth review and critique. Let me know if you guys want any other info.
  17. I am by no means the end all be all of suggestions, however as far as dog collars, for ready pre-made colors you cannot go wrong with latigo. Bridle is also an option, but the tanneries I have spoken to label latigo bit more durable to the elements, and bridle being a bit easier to the touch with a little trade off to being less resilient than latigo . With that, if you want to tool, or use special colored leather not offered in the drum dyed world, natural veg tan from Hermann Oak or Wickett and Craig will be in your wheelhouse. Dont be discouraged from using their utility or B grade leathers since you are cutting straps. The amount of waste a few scars or bites would be negligible compared to $ per sq ft and a little easier on your pocket. Hope this helps. . Edit: Full disclaimer, I use chicago screws with a dab of blue loctite for all of my buckle and dee ring attachments. A leather failure can be attributed to lack of care. Id rather trade off a few screw slots on the inside than to have the customer blame a potential failure on the fastening of the collar.
  18. What type of leather are you using? Veg tan, latigo, bridle, harness? A good oiled veg tan, or wet molded veg tanned or latigo bend well for strap ends. If all else fails, skive. I have limited experience with harness, however that is my next foray into my stock world.
  19. Thank you.I will give them a hollar this week.
  20. I have a few of their spacer templates. I lve considered those as an alternative, but if I can have a die cut to consolidate the steps I would be all over it.
  21. Looking to see if there's such a tool or punch that can taper a strap. I do a bunch of straps that would require a taper and would like consistent angles and speeding up the process. Below is an example that would be similar, however I dont leave such a large tail at the end to attach hardware. Id like to be able to set up 10-20 straps at a time and just hammer away with greater precision and consistency. After looking I assume they dont sell things like this. Is there a company that can make custom dies almost like clicker dies with a welded shaft to hammer like a regular strap end punch? Thanks in advance.
  22. The lime juice took almost all of the spotting off. Considering its utility use absolute perfection (staring for imperfections) is not an issue. Thank you for the input. Time to scrub all my stuff down and create a section for natural stuff vs dyed.
  23. Well of there is one thing I have is lime juice (oddly enough) ill give it a try. Dropping some straps off to guys in person tomorrow. This one was a late entry, however id love to knockem all out in one trip. Will report back with results.
  24. I still cant believe so many people jumped on this confederate flag = nazism/kkk bandwagon. Im from one of the most liberal states in the US and ive never considered buying a confederate flag until someone told me I shouldn't. All of the options presented are viable ones akin to the "you dont like the program, change the station" ideology. But for arguments sake, nudity portrayed in the Renaissance is considered art, and the majority of people cant tell the difference between a swatstika and a bhuddist symbol that predated it by centuries. Why so serious over something so trivial?
