Here is a holster that I am working on for my Glock 23 w/light, actually the first one that I have done in quite a while. The picture isn't the best because I took it with my phone. I am pretty happy with it though. I haven't decided what color yet but I am thinking some kind of brown or mahogony. I am tired of black. It's made with 8/9 which is why there isn't a lot of defenition. Also I didn't want to bone it too much and cause problems with the draw because of the light. Nothing real extravagent.

Randy- I agree with Boomstick. I like the overall design ideas, but I think rounding off the edges would increase the eye appeal. More importanly, I know where I can send my most common screw up now. I carry a G35 on duty and use a G23 as a backup, and I have a habit of building left handed holster because I am a moron and lay my pattern on the wrong side of the leather. And I'm not left handed.

New Holster for Glock 19, 23 or 32
WaG35 replied to BruceGibson's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
That is nice Bruce. As far as using the 17 to mold for a 27, it will work, as the frame is the same size except the barrel and grip are considerably shorter. -
couple of holsters I did for a cop
WaG35 replied to Drac's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Very nice Drac. One of the Admin for my Dept. saw me wearing one of mine without a thumb break, and voiced his concern that it didn't look secure. Seeing all that open trigger would probably give him a heart attack. Customer wants what the customer wants. Those are two very clean looking holsters. The weave looks very cool. -
I use a 1/6th drill bit. It has worked good so far.

The blue guns have not melted for me yet when doing kydex. You will get a little blue transfer when they are new, but I think it is paint because it stops coming off after a while.

Google "Rings Blue Guns" and you will find lots of places.

yeah, it's one of those jobs that is hours of boredom followed by moments of terror. I haven't actually had time to cut any leather for this yet( too many irons in the fire riht know. Althouh I am workin nights aain sunday, so maybe then.

Well, I am working night shift tonight and needed something to do I thought I would make a couple patterns. I have been wanting a shoulder rig for my off duty weapon. This will be the holster. I still need to decide what I am going to do on the other side. Either a double mag pouch or mag/cuff pouch. I would really like the mag/cuff pouch but I have really been struggling with the design. Excuse the pic, it came off of my cell phone. I will post pics as the process continues.

First Leather Project
WaG35 replied to Tempusfugit's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Nice job. If you want to leave it natural, burnish the edges and supersheen. Like Boomstick said, conditioner will most likely darkenand soften the leather, both bad for what you want to accomplish. -
Jordan, How do you go about transfering your stitch lines from the graph paper to the leather? I have started using graph paper myself, and haven't figured this part out yet.

Tuckable IWB Holster
WaG35 replied to BOOMSTICKHolsters's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Very nice Jeff. Is the back just rough side out or did you cover it with something? I really like the belt clip setup. Lot s of choices for ride height. Looks to have plenty of surface area as not to dig too bad in any one spot. Keep it up man I never get tired of seeing your holsters. -
Nice, I vote Mahogony. How did the welt work out for the sight channel?
-
that should definately do the trick. Nicely done. Stitching looks graat.

I think I like this one
WaG35 replied to WaG35's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks guys. I don't care for the body sheild, as it looks kind of small. But it was bigger to start with and I trimmed it because it rub on my fat hand on the draw. Thanks for the tip Boomstick, Q-tip that is. -
Well I can't call this an original design and there are still things that I need to improve. I am not particularly crazy about the boning on this one and I need to figure out how to do something other than black. But all in all, I am pretty happy with this one. It is a hidden loop design made out of 7/8, molded by hand, Feibings USMC Black with Feibings leather sheen also brushed on. All stitched by hand. I really should have dyed this piece before assembly, as there was some spots that I couldn't get to afterward. As far as comfort, this is probably the best holster I have ever worn. I wore it around the house for a couple hours tonight and forgot that it was there. I don't know if the pics will show it very well, but I picked up a basketweave stamp at Tandy over the weekend so I did the reinforcing strap around the mouth. I think this holster would have looked cool two tone. I did some practicing with Feibings Mahogony stain because I was going to do the basketweave that color, but I couldn't get an even finish. So Black it is. Critique away fellas.

My First Holster & Questions
WaG35 replied to Hilborne's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I actually do a little of both. I do all of the stitching except fot the stitching around the trigger guard before I mold. I handstitch, so it doesn't seem to be a problem. After molding I go back and add the stitching around the trigger guard. The one flat back holster that I did, I molded then stitched. Either way works, I just don't have enough experience to say which one works better. -
IWB holster for Glock 27
WaG35 replied to usmc0341's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I don't think you did anything wrong. There is a lot more of that gun on the grip end than the muzzle end.(I don't know if that makes sense, it does in my mind) One thing you could do, is ditch the loop on the grip side and raise the loop on the front of the holster so the holster would sit a little lower into the waistband but then it might hamper your grip. Personally, I decided I don't like IWB after I made acouple. But yours looks nice. -
How do you get T-nuts through leather?
WaG35 replied to mliebs8's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I'm not sure I know what you mean. I usually just drill a hole and insert the t nut. Maybe we are not talking about the same thing. A t nut to me is like the threaded part of a chicago screw. Is that what you are talking about? -
I walked away frustrated.
WaG35 replied to WaG35's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks guys, i was pretty sure i wasn't alone. Just thought you needed a good laugh this morning. i am too stuborn to quit. -
Well, it happened. And I knew it was going to, but still frustrating none the less. So far I have made 4 holsters and all of them were functional, there were little things that I would do differently the next time, but they worked. Yesterday while trying a new design concept I made my first one that nothing worked at all. First I cut the leather out so it was either going to be for a leftie(And I'm not a leftie) or it would be rough side out. Then it didn't fit how it was intented at all. But I found this out after investing quite a bit of time. I finally threw my hands in the air and went in the house. I am over it now and ready to try again, but it was a series of comedic errors. Good day guys. I know I am not alone here, just needed to vent a little.

I'm sure you guys get tired of answering these questions, but would a juki LS-321 be any good at all for holster making? It looks like the right machine, but I can't find any info that says what they are used for or any specs. I saw one locally for sale for a decent price if it would be any good.

the mask is cool. Derryn creeps me out.

New Holster off the bench
WaG35 replied to WaG35's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
That is just one coat brushed on with a foam brush. I probably could have done a second coat just to even it out. But it turned ok for my first time. I picked black specifically because I figured it would be hard to screw up. That thing sucked up the dye like nothing I have ever seen.
