  1. Nice looking holster Randy. I think if you cut it a little shorter so the leather didn't gather arounf the muzzle, it might look a little better. Just my opinion and it's worth every penny of what you paid for it.
  2. That's nice Bruce. Glocks are way more about function than form. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan, but they are not show pieces. It looks good though. I got bored and did yet anothe holster for my 23 my everyday carry yesterday.
  3. I think it looks great. I agree with Shorts I love the color. What flavor is it?
  4. Thanks Shorts. I'm trying. The Sig is a hidden loop, the one for the Judge I just haven't cut the belt slots yet. As far as wiping them down, I am going to before I oil the judge and see how it goes. I was going to use rubbing alcohol, is there something else I should try? Thanks again it means a lot.
  5. Jordon- Thank you and yes I thought the same thing as soom as I looked at after stitching it on. Hopefully next time I will think of that befor attaching it. I don't think it actually needed the strap, but for some reason I put it on there.
  6. Well here are a couple holster that I have been working on lately. The first is for my new Sig 226R 40 cal. It's made from 7/8 oz from Zach White. I was happy with everything about this holster until I died it. I used USMC Black and it didn't cover worth a damn. It wears good though. I actually have another started on my bench for this with the addition of a band around the mouth, and I think I will oil with neatsfoot this time. I am tired of black. The second is going to be a Christmas present for my brother. He bought a new Taurus Judge(.45/410) and there are not a lot of holsters out there. He asked me if I would make him one so this is what I have come up with. This is my first holster not for me. I still have some work to do. I am going to oil this one and I still have to cut the belt slots and burnish the edges, but for the most part I am happy with how it is turning out. It was kind of hard to set the stitch lines on this one, but I only had to do it twice. This one turned out tight also which I wanted since I wasn't using any other retention. It will be mostly for range wear, so I think he will be happy with it. Let me know what you all think. Sorry about the pics, they are off my phone.
  7. I was actually thinking about letting my 3 year old try one and see if it tuned out better, the I remembered he has the attention span of well a 3 year old. You said you press with sponge pads, just curious what that is. Is it the Gum rubber or something else. I have been thinking about building a press lately so I would appreciate the info.
  8. I think the replica he is using is from Blackhawk. They come in grey and orange. They are cheaper but they only make a couple models I think. Nice holster by the way.
  9. Those are really nice Tac. I recently tried my air brush too, and I won't be going back to daubers any time soon.
  10. That is by far my favorte look for a holster as well. Very nice. Quick question though, with 2 light coats of the oil do you lose any rigidity in the holster? I have been afraid to try it for that reason. I have a holster/christmas present to make for my brothers new Taurus Judge & I think that would be perfect.
  11. Nicely done Peter. I don't think you could have picked any other color for the Kimber/Sig. It goes great with the wood grips. What color is it? The only thing I could see at all is the belt slots.(which I am currently struggling with also)they look oval rather than oblong if that makes any sense. It could be the angle though. I would wear any of them with a smile. Great job!!!- Tony
  12. I'm with Tac. I've searched to the end of the internet(well, not really but you know what I mean) And The Shooters box is about the cheapest I have found.
  13. I was looking at this stuff for the same thing. http://aetnafelt.thomasnet.com/viewitems/f...?&forward=1
  14. My limited experience has shown that to be true. Not only that but the wonderful thing about leather is 2 pieces from the same distributor may behave differently. Until my last hide, I had been using shoulders from Tandy. This last one I bought from Zach White leather which seems to be of much better quality, I was amazed at the detail that I got out of the boning on the first holster I built. And I am not sure why, but the fit is such that it clicks when the gun is inserted almost like a kydex holster.
  15. What they are talking about would be in place of the stitch wheel for marking the stitches. Personally I don't punch my holes, I drill them with a 1/16th bit after grooving and marking w/ an overstitch wheel(I think mine is 5 stitches per inch) Hope this helps.
  16. I can only tell you what I have found from my experience. Half the thickness of the pistol has worked great for holsters made from 7/8 oz leather and the molding has been tight as can be. I feel that anything less and you wouldn't be able to insert the pistol. On the other hand when I have tried the same allowances with 8/9 I wasn't able to get the gun in at all it was too tight. believe me I gave it everything I had. The Glocks that I have used, the allowance comes out to 1/2". My Sig P226 was the same. The one holster that I tried to mold before I stitched was not nearly as tight, But it had a thumb break so it didn't really matter. I hope all of my rambling has helped.
  17. http://www.theshootersbox.com/store/ This is where I get mine. I have ordered 3 from them so far and have nothing bad to say. Shipping is pretty fast too. I am going to buy a couple more soon also. At least for me I go buy what people in my dept. use for off duty and detective stuff. Glock and Sig are pretty popular as well as some of the xd's.
  18. On Monday UPS dropped off a double shoulder of 7-8 that I ordered from Zach White . Until now I have been using Tandy leather. The difference between them is night and day. I won't buy another shoulder from Tandy. I made a holster for my new Sig today and am amazed that there can be such a difference. I always figured leather was leather. I am sure I have gotten better too, but the detail I was able to achieve on this one is amazing. I ordered the premium so I can't comment on anything else.
  19. Thanks Tac. That should get me going.
  20. Nice looking work. Would it be possible to see a pic of the back of the cuff case. I have been trying to figure out how to put one together.
  21. That is a very nice looking holster. Good job.
  22. That's one heck of a first attempt. I really like the color too.
  23. Very nice Lobo. Until I started making my own holsters, I would have never bought a holster that didn't have a thumbreak. But now I know just how much retention you can get from carefully fitting to the gun. Being that I am a Glock guy(and if you don't want to answer you will not hurt my feelings) How much do you allow for the stitch lines on the 19/23 holster from the actual outline of the gun? And how much does this change with different weights of leather? Again very nice holsters.
  24. Very clean looking holster. Are you going to leave it natural?
  25. you are correct Randy, it did present some problems. First off was in the molding. I had to draw the gun out slowly molding as I went, to get the shape of the light all the way to the top of the holster. If I had been building the holster for my Glock 35 with the light, I probably would have left it squared off at the bottom because the light and the muzzle pretty much line up. With the 23 the light sticks past the end of the muzzle by quite a bit. So if I had left it squared off there would have been a good bit of empty space at the bottom of the holster. That was another one of my dilemas building this thing and I am not sure that I solved it right. This will be the last holster I build for a gun with the attached light.
