What is your book with the riders on the cover about? What happened in 1889? Different clothes. Different saddles on the horses. What nationalities are shown in your picture?

If the one they find has a hover feature that tells us what country the flag is from, that would be ideal. I know some flags but there are a lot on here I don't recognize at all. Something else on the wish list!

2012 Wichita Falls Saddle Makers Round Up
Denise replied to rgepting's topic in Special Events, Contests and Classes
Results of the saddle and boot making contests anyone?? -
The price we are paying for raw hides (fresh off the bull) has more than doubled in the last few months. We pay pretty much what the slaughter house receives when they ship a load of hides, and they don't set the price. They take what the processor gives them, I assume based on the market demand. So the processors are willing to pay more for hides for some reason, and that has to come out of someone's pocket, which eventually will be the end buyer, i guess.

As with anything to do with trees and saddles, there are (almost) always differing opinions... After all, every tree maker (and every saddle makers) does things differently, because they all think differently about things!

There are a couple old threads about these trees. This one has the manufacturer chiming in and pictures of the cable rigging and how it works: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=11307&hl=laporte Here's another one: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=20415&hl=laporte

I wasn't aware that Bud had passed away. I am very sorry to hear that. He was a very good saddle maker.

If you see stuff like this, please send in a report to the moderators. (There is a report button on the bottom left of every post.) We can't always keep up and if you send it in, someone will take a look at it. And thank you for taking the time to do so.

Oakdale Cowboy Museum - Tools Of The Trade
Denise replied to bruce johnson's topic in Leather History
Bruce, I finally took the time to look through all the pictures. It looks like a very well done exhibit. It also looks like you won't be building on that tree any time really soon, eh???? -
Need Advice On Saddle Repair
Denise replied to Dwight's topic in Saddle Identification, Restoration & Repair
Dwight, Is this a normal western saddle? Typically the skirts are two piecs of leather with sheepskin sewn to them individually and the skirts are commonly laced together at the back. There isn't one piece of sheepskin that covers the whole underside of the saddle. Posting some pictures of the problem will probably help. -
cdf, Hides aren't a problem that way. Even at the height of the BSE deal, the one thing bovine that still crossed the border was hides. (To the best of my understanding anyway.)

Dave, Make sure they send everything by the post office. No brokerage fees there. Any courier charges the brokerage fees. Most companies who do much business with Canadians should know this, but it is always important to specify or else you can get stung - as you have found out. If you want to know about importing leather, someone who could tell you is Ken at Caledon Sales in Calgary. http://www.caledonleather.ca/ He is a good guy to buy leather from but he is also just a good guy and will probably tell you about any restrictions since this is what he does all the time.

Jack, Wow. I checked that out and it had almost as much stuff going on at one time as my brain does... Not good. But you're right, I don't know what it means, and I don't think I want to know... I have recently run my antivirus, so I don't think that is it. Kevin, Thanks for that too. What all do I need to have running when I start up? I have the audio manager and adobe starting up right away. I can uncheck them and they will still start if I want to use those programs, correct? I also have three Intel® Common User Interfaces that start up. What are these and can I uncheck them without negative repercussions? Edited to add: OK, I googled it. More confused than I started... Some say OK remove, others say don't. Some try to explain what it is. That really sets my brain off course... Thanks very much for your help. I am copying and pasting your answers into my personal "How do I deal with this stupidcomputer?" instructions file...

When I'm not working on the computer and have nothing open, sometimes it still goes crazy working on something by itself. (Oh, how I wish it would do housework!!) Anyway, I know there is an easy way to find out whta is running in the background, but I don't know what it is. Help anyone? In easy to understand steps for a computer hater who has to use them anyway? Thanks!

So sorry to hear this.

Bruce, So did she die of hardware anyway and did you use the hide?

Ray, we enjoy the few shows we have done too. It is fun to go just to visit, because we aren't allowed to sell anything at shows in the US - just take orders - and there aren't any in Canada for our customers (saddle makers) per se. But it is a 20 hour drive to get there. Hey, a 5 hour drive just gets us to the closest major airport...

It's melting already, but it will take a few days to totally disappear again. I keep telling myself that the pastures needed the moisture. The worst thing is they didn't grade the road till Monday. We managed to get out the 2 1/2 miles to the highway on Sunday night with the truck in 4 wheel drive. Didn't want to chance it before then. Neighbours about 3 miles farther than us tried it and didn't make it. Stuck in the middle of the road. Doesn't happen often, and usually the MD gets the graders out right away, but we are 20 miles from ttown where they only got about 6" of snow so maybe they didn't realize how bad it was out here. I don't know how the school bus got through Monday morning...
-
Snow report - was all gone. Then got another 14 inches on Friday...

Aurora, Welcome to the forum. Another way to store the skins till you are ready to work on them is to freeze them. Just make sure they are well wrapped in plastic so they don't end up freezer burned.
