My (First) Sewing Machine Is Here..29K33....its Heavy ;)
alexitbe replied to alexitbe's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Thank you for the links and the information. I was at a complete loss. I will take your word on the Waschverdünnung....I might even try isopropnol first, just to see. I think its quite weak. I don't understand why there are two thread tensioning "things." Can I do without one or do I need both? Regarding the setscrew, I noticed that the needle was sometimes catching the side of the "bobbin housing" (must learn correct terminology). So maybe you have solved this problem too.. Cheers Alex -

And the rest of the pictures are below. As you can see its in really nice condition. The wheels and cogs move and the needle goes up and down. So I am optimisitic that I, as a complete newbie, can fix it before Christmas... If you find any faults please do not hesitate to say. This will be a real education for me and I am looking forward to it. Thanks for your time and your comments Alex -

The exterior is in really nice condition. I will not do much to it, I like the aged effect. However, I am missing the shuttle body, which will cost about 30 dollars. Also the whole assembly to fill the bobbin (cannot find a place to buy that) and two things I cannot workout. They should be in the two holes in the pic below, Any guesses would be a real help. Also, where is good to buy replacement parts in the States? Thanks Alex -
Difference Between The 31K Xx Models And 31K32?
alexitbe replied to alexitbe's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Thanks guys, for clarifying its purpos. I will pass on it then. I am looking for a heavy duty sewing machine to go with my new patcher.. Any Adlers or Singers you woul recommend? I would like to be able to sew two 4mm pieces of leather. -
The Singer 31k manual says it is relevent to all 31k's except the 32. Why is this? Is the 32 still capable of sewing leather? Obviously, I have the chance to buy a 31K32 and am curious why the 31k manual specifically exclude this model. I really would like a sewing machine that can do leather. Any help would be greatfully recieved. Thanks Alex

alexitbe replied to Constabulary's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Thank you both.... Yes, I live in Germany, but am not a Native. Mein Deutsche ist sehr schlect. I have had my suspicions about Ballistol for a while. I used to store it in a bottle with a metal cap and the oil would turn green after some months... Anyway, I will start a new thread after I pick it up on Tuesday. I hope it has all the parts ad just needs a strip down. Thanks for all the advice. Alex -

Thanks alot... I have ordered the cleaner from Recolor. You mention gun oil and I think I have some Ballistol somewhere. Maybe this is ok? I think I will still get what you recommended. I can find a use for it, I am sure. I have ordered the grease too. What, exactly should I grease? I guess, axels. You mention gears. How do you grease properly, I have no experience. Thank you for your full response. Alex Addendum: I have bought them all... Couldn't find the Ballistol. Atleast I know they all work. -

I have done some further searching around and it would seem like its a shoemakers double sewing machine... or atleast that is the direct translation of it into English It might be fun to have, not sure what I could use it for, except the obvious. I hoep to get it for less than a hundred... I'll let you now later on...

My name is Alex and I have suddenly found myself starting this new hobby...Am not sure how that happened, but it started with archery... I am going to a pick- up a Singer patcher next week and hope it will be ok for most jobs. Although I hear they mark the leather.. i can live with that for now. I will do some quivers and bags with that. Probably using 8-10 oz leather. However, I also wish to try making leather gloves... I have read that lamb nappa is a good leather to use. However, I have been told that I need a special sewing machine for that. A sewing machine that sews really close to the edge of the fabric. So I am earching ebay ofcourse and have found this. Is this sort fo machine I need? It says that it has curved needles and no further useful information is added.. To put it into context. The guy selling it is selling several different pieces of leather working equipment including an Adler 30k. I guessed that this machine was also for leather. Thanks Alex
