  1. When you attach the runner, as you slide it along the zip, the teeth separate. As you slide the runner back to where you started, the teeth will close again. You can do the same on the other end of the zip by attaching another runner when you cut it to your final and desired length.

Ok Thanks. That makes sense. When I have the length I want and am wanting to sew it on, what are the steps to put the sliders on, then sew?

  2. I had a thread on where I could find such zippers and can't find that thread, so I'll put this here.

I am putting new metal zippers in a hild's backpack. I found some that's perfect on a roll, and have the sliders. I don't have end pieces but with this project I think I can work around that.

SO, how do I make this all work? There was a Lady willing to give me instructions but I can find her here.

  3. Thanks for the info..

Bronco are you saying YOU might have this? I will get the exact measurements {there's 3 zippers} and I'll contact you. It's a camo cloth bag with the longer one at the top and 2 smaller ones below, for pockets. He wants them all replaced with metal as his son already broke the plastic big one. Thankyou so much! I have a time limit so am thrilled to find these so quickly.

  4. I have to replace a broken zipper in a customer's son's backback. It's 43". So I went to weaver's today. She's getting my box ready and I notice all the stuff and ask if directions come with it. No I was told but I'll need to buy the $32. tool to make it all work. What?? For one thing this metal zipper was way too big for the project, and for another, I need something I can use a hammer with. Where can I order a length of metal zipper, the stops, and sliders & use it without buying a special tool? Thanks.

  5. I have had good luck with Identi-Tape.

The brightest tapes are the prismatics especially Reflexite. Naturally they are the most expensive. I use a lot of SOLAS tape which is hugely reflective especially when wet. SOLAS stands for Safety Of Life At Sea. This tape is the lifeline of an overboard sailor at night. It has to light up like a Christmas tree of the person will probably die. I use it on my the saddlebags of my motorcycle for Hi-Viz at night. I use colored Reflexite on the windshield of my bike to warn off errant left and right hand turners that like to invade a biker's right of way.

There are lots of choices and this link has good prices for roll goods.

I looked and like the vinyl stuff. Might get some of the yellow. Thanks for your help.
