  1. Nice flip flop. Another idea for tire tread sole could be bicycle inner tube or you could put a layer of black rtv silicone on the bottom and form tire treads in it while it is drying. Could also cut in the tread design when it hardens. jc
  2. Awesome work of art! The color, WOW!! jc
  3. Spider, Thanks. (The second will be better.) This is an Autism Awareness Ribbon. The puzzle pieces represent what autism is to most Doctors, a puzzle. My son is autistic, so this has special meaning to me. www.autismspeaks.org Crystal / Storm, Thanks, the Eco dyes are another lesson I am trying to learn. The colors seem to opaque after mutiple coatings, but I will figure it out or try something different. Johnny
  4. My first attempt was a learning experiance. Lessons learned- Make sure the starting width is wide enough and form the pocket before sewing. Puzzle pieces are harder to carve than I imagined.
  5. Scouter, Very nice wallet and lacing! I have always been partial to deer scences and fine job on the coloring of the deer. On your next one, (on the corners) instead of going through the one corner hole three times, try going through each of the "three holes" at the corner two times each. Johnny
  6. Tom, Awesome case!! Are you going to start building custom Fly Rods to go with the cases?? again Awesome. Johnny
  7. Scouter, Thanks for the compliments. Since I have joined the forum, I have seen so many more ways to lace, and different styles of the same items. Thanks again, Johnny
  8. Tom, Thanks for the pointers. I am going to have to get some more "figure stamps" to reach those tight areas. I will have to scan the orginal pic for compaison. Johnny
  9. Another family member, Mom was in need of a new checkbook cover. Since she collects frogs and it was her birthday, I figured this was the best gift. The frog pic originated from an Audubon field guide book. The opposite side was western floral and her initials, which were showing when she opened the box, she was really suprised when she finally looked at the other side. I do have to practice a lot more on the frogs toes, but Mom was happy with her bday gift. Johnny
  10. Ken, The old NeatLac had a brownish tint to it out of the can. I tried it on a scrap piece of leather and it left brownish streaks, it kind of gives it an old look to start with. The results were not as good on the cover as on the scrap piece, but the family member was glad to receive a new checkbook cover. I have since got a new can that I will be using on my next cover. Johnny
  11. It has been about 20 years since I have made a checkbook cover. This cover made a family member happy, and I really did not want to relace his cover for the 3rd time. I did learn a valuable lesson, Do Not use NeatLac that is 25 years old!! Working on another checkbook cover and have a lot of ideas (thanks to others post) that I will be attempting. jc
  12. Storm, Very nice card cases. I have a question, one the case on the left. Is the flower petals pearshaded from the reverse side or is this a dyeing technique? I am going to have to make one of this style. jc
  13. Hello from the Gulf Coast. I am just getting back into doing some leatherwork. It has been a long time since I have really focused on carving. I have been reading post and I am looking forward to learning from the members and hopefully contributing some helpful info for others. Johnny
