  1. Yes. I tried it the other day and after having it cemented in place for a few minutes I didnt like the way it was bending at the center so luckily I was able to rip the piece off! I am going to have to settle for the front piece not being lined on the inside when doing bifolds with hidden pockets. If I was to fully line the inside I would have 6 layers of leather! (pocket, hidden pocket, front panel, lining, back lining, back). Without a skiver or splitter just would be too thick IMO!
  2. Very nice. You did the center portion like petewon right? with the front panel facing backwards and the center strip?
  3. Thanks. Which kind did you get? I heard that they are always needing adjusting to get them working right. has that been your experience ? Also wondering if you can split down a whole piece of leather if you skived each area bit by bit...for example the backing of a leather wallet? Something of that size. thanks
  4. where did you get your bell knife skiver? Is it fairly easy to use?
  5. How much did you pay for the shipping of the Barenia? I met the rep at a leathershow and was interested in ordering some but figured it would cost a arm and a leg to the U.S.
  6. Since the design is so simple the stitching really stands out which you will need to practice a bit before you start on the watch band. Im not suggesting you need a expensive pricking iron but for a watch band you at least want a small spi iron (probably 10spi). Does Tanndy make irons that small? I would recommend one of the chinese irons that is supposed to look like a European iron which are pretty cheap on ebay, and it will be important to use thin thread for a project this size (probably 632fil au chinois or equivalent of another brand). For leather I would actually recommend something like wickett & craig chestnut bridle split down to about 4oz which you can get easily in the states. Other calf leathers are usually chrome tanned and don't look super similar to Barenia IMO.
  7. I think that is Barenia from HAAS tannery. if you practiced on watch strap exclusively I think you could make something close to that in about 3-4 months with the right tools.
  8. came across this as well on ebay about a week ago. Looks interesting. Hopefully some reviews come out soon.
  9. I think YKK makes different lines of zippers. I have one on a heavy canvas bag and it is smooth and very strong. I bought a few smaller ones from ohio travel bag for wallets and they are very flimsy. Im sure they make nice zippers but you have to know which models to look for I guess. Thor any more info?
  10. buckleguy sells Riri zippers which are supposed to be very nice. I ordered a few earlier this week so I will find out for myself.
  11. I emailed one of the brothers asking about the new website and he never responded. Pretty bummed. They had some super nice calfskin leather at very good prices.
  12. If you're willing to use edge paint why not calfskin? The reason I say the edge paint is that a lot of the calfskin is chrome tanned and wont burnish well. Goatskin, calfskin, bridle split are some options.
  13. $70 for the pricking iron shipped. Had someone interested but can't find the message now for some reason
  14. are the inverse irons the same price as the regular? Fine leather working sells one but in only one size and they are pricier than the regular irons.
  15. Wanting to order a end punch for watch strap making and not sure if 1/2" or 3/4" would be better suited. I have no stores around me that sell them so looking in person is not a option. Watch strap average size that Im starting to make is 18mm and it tapers down to around 16mm which is roughly .62 inches. Obviously the 1/2" is smaller than that but I could move it up towards the end of the strap more before punching. Anyone who has these sizes is the smaller shape of the 1/2" punch a better ftr for smaller projects. Asking because the osborne punches Im eyeing are around $45 a piece and hoping to get the correct one. thanks!
  16. very nice strap. Did you use a punch to cut the end? Also the tongue slot for the buckle what toll did you use?
  17. ricking Iron- I got this about a year ago but have only used it maybe twice because I already own a 9 & 12 api iron. Was $95 plus tax and shipping. Will sell for $75 shipped Awl- These are widely considered the best awl blades around. It is VERY sharp & polished. Next to it is a vergez blanchard for comparison. This awl blade comes shipped about 2.5 inches which I found way too long for the work I do so I cut the bottom off (maybe 1/4") with a dremel. The bottom didnt cut off perfectly straight but it sits in a awl handle perfectly fine. It is still too long for my liking so it could be cut a bit more by someone with more experience and straight this time. This was $27 new plus shipping. Will sell for $20shipped. Literally used this maybe once. Will sell and ship both for $90. Any questions feel free to ask

  19. Thanks! Actually not too much. Alligator is only around 2oz and the calfskin about the same so I didnt need to do a lot of work to keep it thin. Thanks! When I first started reading your response I got nervous! haha
  20. First time working with alligator belly. Made this one for a family friend. 9spi/ linen thread
  21. I would be interested in the swatch card pics. Alran was supposed to send me one but I haven't received it yet. Very curious about that Green color!
